Dropped out in 2012. Took a internship as a Windows Admin. Challenged myself to learn Linux and changed my life. 10 years later I work on SuperComputers without a degree. Amazing content sir!

I've learned over the past 2 years that the way to get a significant raise (10k or more) in this industry is to hop to another company. Increase by 10-20k each time you job hop.

I think tech is a great career, otherwise I wouldn't have been in it for almost 20 years. With that said, I think the lifestyle that accompanies tech is a bit toxic. Late/long hours, weekends/on-call, production "support", sitting all day leads to back and neck issues, and more. I moved from support to admin to devops to cloud, and I am happy where I am, but even with all that movement and progress and working fully remote... I somedays wish I just became an electrician and moved around more and had more autonomy. That would lead to a longer life, healthier body and healthier mind, just my 2 cents. Some advice I generally give young people is: 1 - keep growing and learning otherwise you will get replaced. 2 - stand up every 45mins for 5mins, 3 - do not work on a "on-call" or "weekend support" schedule, 4 - when they stop valuing you or you get bored and aren't learning, start applying.

I am a military retiree and career changer in my mid 50's. I have a bachelor's degree and have completed several MyComputerCareer programs. I'm still having issues landing high-paying roles or getting hired by organizations where I can move up. After finding and watching this episode, I'm all in on Yellow Tail Tech. I've accessed the website to learn more and booked a call. Although this is the first episode I've watched, it gave me a reason to subscribe to cuSTEM Journeys. I hope Yellow Tail Tech offers virtual training so I can attend from Texas and cuSTEM Journeys brings them back.

Salary depends on geography, your interview skills, and the company” 25:26 Paloma’s first salary was $100k after spending 1 year learning Linux. @@cuSTEMJourneys if thats the case she is extremely lucky i have been in IT just under 20 years and for someone with 0 experiance to be given a 100k after being on a training course with no real world experiance and the possibility to cost a company alot of money if they screw up amazes me, a training course is one thing real world is another. Where's all the jobs being posted? I see some on LinkedIn but times are changing. Everyone going to the cloud which seems to be a mistake for many businesses. Hybrid is probably best. In addition, this means Linux is only part of the skillset needed. I haven't seen too many straight up Linux Admin positions and if I do see them it's usually for principal engineer or something.

Is there a guarantee you get a job or your money back? All these programs are always more than community college with actual degrees. Unless you can 100% no catch can guarantee me a job making 6 figures, then the time and money invested in this program is worthless. Yeah you may say oh you'll gain experience but if you aren't using it on a daily basis you will not retain what you have learned.
@cuSTEMJourneys
@cuSTEMJourneys 5 месяцев назад
I think their program actually does have a money back guarantee. I actually did a follow up interview with her husband/cofounder - Jubee and he talked about it. If interested, I’d definitely recommend reaching out to find out specific details about the guarantee.

@@cuSTEMJourneys I work in the IT field and it seems a little sketch. I have an associates in networking and a bachelors in cybersecurity. @@Road2PBATour I feel you - and I think it’s smart to be skeptical of programs. Especially since you’re likely investing $10k in any program. I have not personally taken this program but after speaking to the founders, past participants, and reviewing their ratings I felt good about having them on the show and spreading the word about the program. I definitely know the challenges of just starting out your career. Building a network has been the most impactful thing for me.
