Seeing two horror legends like Keiichiro and Ito in the same room together is insane. I know it's highly unlikely but the thought of these two working together on a game let alone a horror game would be awesome imo :D
Silent Hill f or the next Silent Hill game in general should have been a collaboration between these two. That aside, I am incredibly hyped for Slitterhead.
@@12ealDealOfficial As much as I'd love to these two work on a Silent Hill game I know that's unfortunately not gonna happen but just like you I'm just glad that Keiichiro and his team are making slitterhead it looks so damn cool!! :D
(11:40) Keiichiro Toyama said something that resonates strongly within me, that experiencing horror before 10 is incredible, and that is my case. My mother used to like horror movies when she was young, and she would allow me to watch them with her (I'm grateful she was not a satanic panic kind of parent!) I watched Halloween by myself when I was 8 or 9. I was terrified but I fell in love with that experience, and I have tried to replicate that sensation ever since, with more or less success. The sad thing is I developed a kind of immunity to horror fiction. I still enjoy it, but horror for me is like action for most men: adrenaline inducing. I'm 43 now, and only some horror games make me unconfortable. According to Freud (The Uncanny), it must be because I'm a complete materialistic atheist. In that essay, he says horror works because the reader (he talks about books) thinks, "what if this actually happened to me", but to have that though, you need to have at least some magical thought in yourself. What terrifies me? The thought of painful death. Because death is real, I can die in a car accident and slowly die feeling every moment. But what terrifies me the most is how the world is for women, and I have a niece, so every time she goes out, I'm mortified. Damn, I'm old. There's something impish about Junji Ito. The way he talks about his horror stories with an almost blissful smile and a little smirks here and there. He's either a great innocent or the devil himself. >:-) I love him! Thank you, Bokeh Game Studio, for another banger!
@@BokehGameStudio please hire this man and bring back team silent members to create Silent hill 5, retcone everything that came after 4 and origins and save the silent hill game with one more game SH 5 please please consider this konami is looking and they are making mistakes again. (No more remakes too we need originals and new story with the same blueprint of old silent hill and the town map of 1 2 3 and the orphanage and tower prison from 4 make it all open map) 👍
Two of the most influential figures on my personal taste for horror stories? I couldn't have asked for a better guest. This is my interview; it was made for me!
This is an amazing interview between my favorite video game creator and favorite Manga creator. Ito's manga and Keiichiro's Forbidden Siren and Silent Hill have been such a huge and amazing part of my life, getting to play these games and read these manga (currently rereading Soichi as it happens). I agree with Keiichiro that when reading Ito the unbelievable is made to feel real, as you're transported into the stories, such is the effect. The same can be said for Keiichiro's creations. Forbidden Siren took me to rural Japan and made the horror feel real. I often say if I visit Japan I would prefer not be pulled into a cursed village or face off with monsters but in brilliant fantasy, being transported to these locations and facing the unbelievable through art and storytelling is a great joy. Very much looking forward to what will come next from these masters!
You do not understand how much I am inspired by siren. It is what led me to game development and why I pushed myself into the industry. I have my first job now and I look forward to the day I can apply and work at bokeh.
Again, this is the best game studio YT channel. Incredible content (like this one), very good English subtitles, no monetization. Thank you very much, I hope to see a lot from Bokeh Studio in the future!
I was so excited to see this interview. It was such a wonderful interview and a captivating watch! My friend introduced me to Junji Ito's works through Uzumaki when I was about 13 years old and I've been captivated by his works ever since. I'll probably never get to meet him in my lifetime, but I'm so thankful for his work and all of the wonderful stories that he's able to share with us. He's an absolute inspiration to so many, myself included! ♥
Felt a bit of sadness hearing Toyama talking about the legacy of Silent Hill, I hope he will reap what he sewn during all his career. I remember playing Siren when I was little, one the few games I had to quit for good, it was just too scary, watching from the monsters point of view and feeling hopeless. I revisited it recently and still has an unmatched atmosphere and an innovative storytelling format. And then there's Ito, what an horror legend, his twisted imagery brands with fire in your brain.
Thank you for the interesting interview, you are both legends to me! That was very inspiring. Loved the talk especially about influences and thought process while creating new works! I wish someday you'll make a game together or at least some story scenarios/levels :). We need to appreciate the creative genius of Ito-san while he is still writing stuff! Especially since he is willing to try new things! It was so cozy listening about your childhood and first acquaintance with horrors. The life is so short, some people need to cherish their precious moments while they can... Never stop doing those! And I can't wait for the new information about Slitterhead!
What a fantastic video! I love Junji Ito works and to see him here with Keiichiro Toyama was so unexpected, what an amazing surprise. I love the way of how they talk about the terror/horror genre, experiencies from the childhood and creative process of ideas, very interesting and inspirational video! Cant wait for more!
Very bold of Toyama-san to ask so directly about how Ito-sensei feels about his works getting adapted lol. I hope Ito-sensei got to play, or at least watch some Slitterhead related thing with this visit. And who knows. Maybe one day they might reference each other's works in their own.
i think most of sh fans are either moved on with life alltogether or dont even have an idea about this all :( i mean those who like me got into SH in early-to-mid2000s. have no idea about "fresh blood".
Nothing of importance was told, the video is still 1080p for some reason, and we still have no idea what The Slitterhead is all about, even though they've promised it for 2023 - oh well...
PLEASE AFTER SLITTERHEAD MAKE GRAVITY RUSH 3😭😭 IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAME SERIES OF ALL TIME OF COURSE I WILL SUPPORT SLITTERHEAD TOO!! BUT I REALLY WANT AND NEED A GRAVITY RUSH 3😭😭 AND I'M SO MAD AT SONY AND PLAYSTATION FOR NOT SEEING THE BEAUTIFUL GAMES U MAKE AND THE POTENTIAL YOU HAVE LIKE YOU'RE AMAZING!! JUST KNOW THAT PEOPLE CARE ABOUT YOUR GAMES❤❤ YOU'RE AMAZING KEEP GOING!!
Sony Interactive Entertainment own Gravity Rush a third entry cannot be done by a studio no longer involved with the company, also as a publisher it does not matter how "beatiful" projects are if they are commercial failures
Keiichiro Toyama saying his works haven't seen tremendous success (18:15) nearly broke my heart. His work has been a constant inspiration to my horror writing. Such a rare talent. Cannot wait to see where he and his studio take us next.
Man, that's really disappointing 😭. He puts so much effort into Silent Hill and Siren. I'm a huge fan of Siren, and from what he said, it seems like he made siren 2 easier to attract more buyers. I hope he considers remaking Forbidden Siren one day with improved controls and graphics, like a proper remake, because I wasn't a fan of Blood Curse. Siren's dark, grayish atmosphere creates such a realistic feeling when you're exploring the Japanese abandoned village. The flickering lights and foggy town add so much to the experience. It's my comfort game. Blood Curse feels too focused on being too grotesque scary and with its excessive use of red. I'd love for it to be more elegant and meaningful rather than just trying to be cool, and it's westernized wth!! Even fatal frame english dub is hated let alone changing the character into western, I want the game to have tragic, sad and dark vibes, not lame. I hope he read this 😋
Also so excited for SLITTERHEAD!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥 Even though I'm scared of horror I will play it to support u guyss and it will be scary but both an amazing game to I just know it
@@Somereasonstolive I lost all interest when Silent Hill creator confirmed it is an action adventure title with "horror elements" calling it "action horror" the last one that claimed such a thing was Resident Evil 6
Ito is one of the few people's works I think capture's the Lovecraftian concept of horror and makes it poignant with the helplessness that other fiction will try and still have characters beat the odds to some degree. I think Japanese horror does that and has been doing that, which is why I like it. There is a lonely, surreal feel in those films where sometimes the characters survive or they don't. SIren and Silent Hill are game examples of how I felt with those films and these scenarios stick with you.
