Thank you, thank you, thank You! I'm just finishing a beautiful jacket that is being ruined by the pleating on the top of the sleeves. I'm going to take them out, slightly reduce the crown and set my ease stitches from the areas you indicate instead of that tiny area at the top. You have saved my jacket. Bless you!
Would love a tutorial on how to raise an arm scythe (I love to buy second-hand designer suits from the 1990s...) So, I just bought an "old" (but beautiful) Armani pant suit... Shoulder width is ok...but the bottom of the arm scythe is SO LOW...so that when I raise my arms the entire jacket goes up. I want to shorten hem of jacket (which is 7" below my wrists at least 3-4 inches, which would give me enough fabric to add fabric to the under arm. (I know this sounds like a kind of flaky thing to do--and it will be difficult because wool/cashmere fabric is gray pinstriped...) I don't want to mess around w/shoulder seam...or even side seams (as they fit well...) Any suggestions? I think an underarm gusset would work IF I can align the pinstripes... I'm crazy--right? ( am going to have to completely take apart the pants and cut new pattern pieces. They are too big in every way. At least I have enough fabric.
