Do you lose control on your 40-60 yard wedge shots? I have a few questions for you to see if I can help. Do you feel like your arms and body are out of sync? Do you lose control of the face through contact. Hitting thin and heavy. Do shots float up into the air, consistently coming up 10-20 yards short, even when you try to swing harder? If you've experience these types of shots, I can help you with this video.
I look forward to working with you much more in the future with Top Speed Golf. Good luck with your golf.
Clay Ballard

Good morning Clay. I'm a 73 year old semi semi retired, recently obsesed golfer, "says my wife". I'm in my first league ever for 5 years now carrying a consistently amazing 26 handicap. Lost count of the pros I've watched on you tube until you. Followed you for the last 6 months now. Crazy!! You are the best for 2 reasons that changed everything for me!. You taught me how the swing should feel with lots of swing demonstrations. Breaking 15 is right around the corner. Shoot an a 9 hole 44 Thursday night. The guys on my leage are in there 50's and they call me Moses, which helps me concentrate😅. Thanks again Clay. See you on your next page....!

hands down best instructor on youtube...no argument. amazing details in every video. love how he shows the correct way to do things, but also what most people do wrong - makes it much easier to learn what needs fixed and how to fix it. i bought a new house with a higher ceiling solely for when Clay says "get up and make a few swings in your living room while you're watching".

This has worked for me in my 20+ years playing golf. Step 1: always miss the green. Hook or slice if you have to. Or just aim wrong. Any mishit is acceptable, as long as it lands within 40-80 yards. Step 2: over 20+ years of step 1, you'll have had enough pitching practice to nail these shots. Step 3 (bonus): reduce your putting stats by following steps 1 and 2. Step 4: be happy and accept your 95.

So true..I was on the edge of a creek had a great stance had room for a great pitch and mentally did not rotate and accelerate, hit 2 balls in the water in the same spot!! So third swing I rotated and accelerated stay committed and the ball fired of the PW with great loft on a severe elevated green and was 10 feet pin high..Priceless..Good day Clay!!! I was all ARMS!!

I guess I'm a little confused, I was always taught in order to put more spin on the ball you have to add Loft. Because if you hit down on it your delofting the club and you're hitting on the side of the ball instead of underneath it which would give more time for that ball to roll up the clubface therefore give you more spin. So if you could shed some light on that situation that would be very much appreciated thank you

I have the opposite effect with forward shaft lean on these shots. The leading edge digs so much when I get steep. I have to use more bounce for these and keep the hand more vertical for some reason.

Clay, I have all my wedges dialed in with full shots. However, when I club down say, (using a 60* to hit a 60 yarder, then grab a 56 to hit same) with a shorter back swing, I hit an occasional shank.

I would shank them 15% of the time, which made me scared the other 85%. I didn't even practice this technique, just went out and tried it and it worked immediately. I use a pitching wedge or a 9 or 8. It takes the club shaft lean out of it. Each club has it's own distance. But I'm an amateur. I do watch a lot of your videos, some have been really helpful. Got that from Gary Player.

If I am looking for 45 degrees, why not hit pitching wedge, reducing through the air and increasing roll? If I want 40 degrees, 8 or 9 iron? I notice Bob Vokey advocates a 54 or 56 for nearly all shots around the green for amateurs. I am so interested in this area. Thanks for your time

a really stupid beginner question, but what is the advantage of using a 56 degree over a pitching wedge if you are going to de-loft the club anyway? Does it create more spin?
@TopSpeedGolf

You can open the face up while keeping your hands forward at impact which helps deliver a more consistent strike and roughly the same degree of loft. So yes, more spin and consistency. Play well! Nate | TSG

@TopSpeedGolf

Great video Clay, but what about bounce on the wedges? Shouldn't it depend on what type of striker you are? (Sweeper or Divot taker)
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 5 лет назад
Hi Michael, if you're doing this correctly then the bounce doesn't make much of a difference on these shots. You want to be controlling that leading edge. If you're using the bounce to glide through the turf then you'll be hitting behind the ball filling the face with debris and moisture. Makes it very hard to predict how much spin will be on the ball. It's really important to get ball first contact. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Great video. A quick questions please : what ball position is good for high or low shot? Thank you.
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 5 лет назад
Thanks Aaron, you could play the ball in the middle or just back of middle for a lower flight. I would recommend trying to get more forward shaft lean to try to flight the ball lower. To hit it higher then I would play the normal ball position and feel like you're flipping the hands a little bit to add loft to the face at impact. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

@Clay Could you please make a "What's in the bag" video? Other RU-vidrs like Rick Shiels, Peter Finch, and Meandmygolf have done that and I would like to see what you have.

Hi Corek, funny you would say that. We actually have a "what's in the bag" video scheduled to be released soon. Stay tuned! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Aren't you taking bounce off the club by delofting it so much? I thought the low flight/high spin/better distance control comes from the strike point low on the face with a more neutral shaft?
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 3 года назад
If you lean it too far forward then yes.

if you close the face down,then what about the bounce?

Would say that just went back after an 17 year absence ... stopped playing because I became short sighted along with beer etc etc .... playing with glasses is a whole new ball game ball is closer than it seems at first so it’s hard

Great video Clay , so a 60yd pitch say over a bunker with the 56degree you would ajust your angle of attack (less steep) more loft and spin or open up the face Seve style?
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 5 лет назад
Hi Bob, you could open up the face a little but it probably wouldn't be necessary. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instruction

bob - depends on the read into the green, and where the pin is... for example, if you have to pitch over a greenside bunker and the pin is also closely adjacent to the bunker, then you would want to open the face on a higher lofted club and play more of a flop shot. all depends on the situation.

Can i just rotate shoulder or legs has to move forward too?
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 3 года назад
I would recommend moving the legs. You could get away with just the shoulders for really short shots.
