8:29 hello, why there are a light or quick T sound between n and s sound (nc) in a word difference /ˈdɪfrəns/.Thank you.
@SanDiegoVoiceandAccent
@SanDiegoVoiceandAccent 4 года назад
Hi! This is a great question - I have wondered this same thing, and I haven't found a good answer to it! I agree with you that when I pronounce "difference" or any word that has an /n/ + /s/ combination, like "once" /wʌns/ or "wince" /wɪns/, I stop the airflow between the /n/ and the /s/ using a glottal stop. But I don't do this with the /n/ + /z/ combination, like "ones" /wʌnz/ or "wins" /wɪnz/. I think the voicing has something to do with it - before the voiceless /s/ sound, it feels natural to insert a quick glottal stop. But before the voiced /z/ sound, there is no stop. I'm not sure why this isn't part of the IPA transcription! I will try again to find an answer, and I'll let you know what I find out! :)

is the letter l in almond silent, Thank you.
@SanDiegoVoiceandAccent
@SanDiegoVoiceandAccent 4 года назад
Hi! This is a great question. You can pronounce this word three ways: 1) With a silent L using the AH /ɑ/ vowel: /ˈɑ.mənd/. AH-mund. 2) With a silent L using the AA /æ/ vowel: /ˈæ.mənd/. AA-mund. 3) Pronouncing the L using the AH /ɑ/ vowel: /ˈɑl.mənd/. AHL-mund. I pronounce it like #3: AHL-mund, and I think this is probably the most common pronunciation. The least common pronunciation is probably #2: AA-mund. I hope this helps!

Sorry but I must disagree with u, 'cos you Américains don't pronounce Most of the final "t" as in favorite, what WE hear is Feivri. The closest languages to what we right and speak are the romance languages,that is, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Galician, except French.
