Medical staff are often expected to operate the c-arm during invasive and non-invasive procedures at clinics and surgery center. Doctors can take the operation of this x-ray unit for granted. It looks easy.... but it can be every thing BUT easy. Here are some insights how to elevate your game as a c-arm operator and becoming the "go-to" guy or gal.
(of Note: Please not that a barium swallow visualizes the esophagus, and not the trachea ;)

I feel like such an idiot trying to learn this machine. When I'm on the spot, my brain suddenly turns into a puddle of goo and I completely blank out, which upsets the surgeon. I wish there was more guidance provided and more helpful videos such as this one. I don't know why this machine has been so complicated for me to master. You feel even more discouraged when your classmates seem to be adjusting okay. :/

Hopefully you're having an easier time now. It's perfectly understandable, there's so many little things to think of at once, and on top of that the pressure of the situation. But you'll slowly shave off one difficulty at a time as you improve a certain aspect, and when you have less and less things to overwhelm you it becomes much easier to improve. Go easy on yourself. I'm the same way, but realize we weren't born knowing this stuff and we all learn at a different pace. Good luck!!

@@baphomick I feel you. I had a great easy understanding in class but totally blank out at the OR training. I have done, was after class, I would simulate a situation with other students and PRACTICE over and over again. It did its work. Good luck.

I hope you feel differently now! Would love to hear an update and what worked for you. I’ve been a tech for almost a year now and still don’t feel even close to comfortable with a c-arm. I always feel like such an idiot and seem to forget how it works every case. I hate OR for this reason! And I have so much anxiety going into my hospital shifts since I never know if/what surgeries may be occurring the next day

Thank you, Aris. I feel your pain and still remember those initial, tense experiences with impatient doctors. Every insight helps.

@@radboy490 orthopedic cases were my favorite cases and I remember the most important thing in my OR rotation is to come in at an angle and everything that is blue is sterile and should not be touched.

Hello Sir, I am not from clinical background so excuse my little knowledge here. - is this more like X-ray? so the concept of slices as in CT is not available? - is it possible to use C-arm to reconstruct a 3D presentation? - Can you please, point me to a website containing C-Arm dataset, looking for kidney stone removal procedures. Thanks you

this is called fluoroscopy aka fluoro abbreviated. Yes, this is a LIVE x-ray when you step on the pedal or push the button down. think of it as a picture vs movie film. a picture is a still frame x-ray, a movie film with many pictures is fluoro. I don't think I have heard of constructing a 3d image based off using a C-arm-that would be more CT kidney stone uses lithotripsy to break up kidney stones or can be by passed i believe with stents in interventional radiology
