About this episode:
Today we look at the Hanging Pawns, which occur when one side has pawns on the c and d files, but none on the neighboring files. This interesting structure leads to a position where one side has dynamic and spatial advantages, while the other has long-term targets! It is a fascinating structure which defines a whole variety of d4-c4 based openings! We will learn all about it in 15 Minutes!
About this masterclass:
Pawn structures are a crucial aspect of chess middlegames that every aspiring player should master. As the name suggests, these are the unique ways in which your pawns are structured. Why should you learn about different pawn structures? Simple. To make an effective plan. Your pieces are flexible, and can move around in order to aid in a middlegame plan. But, your pawns are static, and moving them can come with great risk. So, you need to learn how to play with your pawns, to form a plan, rather than move your pawns to help with a plan. This is where this masterclass can help. We look at 7 important pawn structures in chess - The Hanging Pawns, Isolated Pawn, Backwards Pawn, Doubled Pawn, Maróczy Bind, Carlsbad Structure, and the Closed Sicilian. These 7 pawn structures will teach you all you need to know to navigate a wide variety of pawn structures in chess. Each will teach you about a different aspect, and together, you will be able to create plans on both sides of practically every middlegame position!

I sometimes get into hanging pawn positions with the nimzowitch larsen attack where the d5 move is a very critical idea. This video was great thanks!

I couldn't understand the PGN files how are connected to this vid (except for the hanging pawns structure of course). I mean the games here are not the games there. And no text to them like here.

@@ChessGeek1 May I ask how you got into Stanford? Did chess help your applications at all?
@ChessGeek1
@ChessGeek1 Год назад
@@danielli6665 Yea I mean I don't know for sure what played a role, and to what extent (I will read my admission file at some point and see what the admission officers wrote down for me so I will know better then), but yeah, chess certainly played a big role. I also enjoy math a lot, and took some high level courses + did an internship related to math. I maintained a 4.0 in high school, and ofc there are some clubs & other extracurriculars too. To be honest the admission process is very random, and frustrating for that reason. I got into some pretty great schools, and ofc Stanford, but rejected from other schools far worse than Stanford. So if you are asking from a strategic point of view (trying to get into these schools) find passions and pursue them as much as possible, but ultimately, don't take the results too seriously. Let me know if you got any other questions.
