In vaganova we have a pretty name for these. They are degage turns. And then we call the thing everyone else calls a degage a jete.😂 we had a teacher that used a different style at my studio once and everyone was so confused...
I really have problems with creeping my turnout open during doing fast exercises or dancing . I would love you to make a video on that 🙏🏼 PS :loved your video as always 😍
I think I did everything you said was wrong...now I know why it's not working😝 could you teach us this crazy-scary Kitri Variation Grand jete attitude jump?
Thank you so much for this! It's nice because a lot of times it's stuff I know, but watching your videos reminds me of a detail I've forgotten about for a little while or haven't focused enough on, and helps me get back on track. Can't wait to practice lame ducks again now :)
Im french canadian and since I learned all my training in french, I had never heard the term lame duck. We always called it posé piqué since you step down (posé) and then do the same movement as in a piqué, but en dehors. The more you know :)
I was looking for Pique turns en dehors all over YT, and there it is, right in my favorite channel, named Lame Duck 🦆 😂okay, now I know what lame duck is..
I've improved so much after I met you (physically and psychologically, if you know what I mean)! Btw, you are stunning!! ⭐💛 I would love a video on promenades and adagios. kisses from Brasil!
Kathryn you inspire me so much! Everytime I watch you dance I wish I could look as beautiful as you do. I watch your videos to try and improve my technique, but they have also helped a lot with my mental issues as I dance. Thank you so much for being so amazing!
Thank you so much for this video! Usually, I am good at these, but I just started doing these en pointe last week, which was a mess. This video is definitely going to help
As usual so helpful with all your corrections. I take a daily class with your follow alone advance barre and it’s just great. I’ve done the center as well. Turns are always a problem and this video helps a great deal. I would like to request a full list of all the turns in ballet if it’s possible. Thanks!!
Great tips, especially about traveling vs. not traveling/replacing. Wish I'd seen this video a little bit earlier; we were doing lame ducks in class today (and I was all over the place, sigh)! 😂
Katie- this video was super helpful. Lame ducks are my hardest step, and you did such a wonderful job. This tutorial turned out so well, and you look so beautiful. I also love how to listen to video requests, and I have been asking for this video. Thank you so much! My suggestions for other steps would be grande jete, Pirouettes en pointe, fouttes, and grande adagio.
This is kind of funny to me because yesterday at ballet we did step overs and I could not do them quickly and well..... so thank you for this very helpful video!!
Can you PLEASE do a video on HYPOextension? My knees don't straighten all the way even though I have tried to stretch and elongate them. Tbh it's one of my greatest insecurities and I'm wondering if anyone else has the same problem and if they can give me some advice??? THANK YOU SO MUCH! ❤️
I love these so much! I usually watch a couple on my way to ballet classes so I`d remember some tips! Could you do a video on glissade/assemble, I just can't make mine work 😱
We call them "piqué dessus" in french . Tours (en dehors or en dedans) are pirouettes . And some teachers also use the expression lame duck in french (canard boiteux haha ! )
Thanks! Great advice. These turns look so beautiful when properly executed but otherwise they are so off kilter (maybe that's why they got their funny name!?)
I want to be in the New York City ballet and I am in 6th grade and I live in Texas I want to go to SAB but I don’t know when to go and I don’t know how to do this. Any advice? ( I want to go to sab after 8th grade)
Hi Katy! Such a huge fan of your channel, I was wondering if you could give some tips on partnering for boys since sometimes ballerinas can be kind of quiet about what they need in terms of support, love the video!
Anna Ackerman I’m assuming there’s not much body fat to burn on your thighs, then the answer is no. There are conditions under which muscles atrophy (hospitalization, starvation), but you won’t be able to dance on your legs then. The only caveat is that sometimes dancers use their quads more than they need to to compensate for weak adductor muscles.
This may be a very odd tip but I find that walking lunges tend to slim my legs down. My thighs are quite muscular too and I always find that walking lunges (where you step into a deep lunge, then stand and step out on the other foot, and keep going for as many as you like. I normally do 10) leave my legs feeling just as strong but not as bulky. Hope this helps :)
Fancy ballet term is pique turn en dehors. Only the Russian teachers call it that though, the American ones call it lame duck except for the heads of the professional program, studio owner, and head of company.
Hi! I've been watching your videos for a while, and they were so helpful. I'm a senior in highschool and would like to study Dance, pedagogy/choreography, in college. Can you give me some tips for auditioning?
I only begin to struggle with these when I’m on pointe. It’s hard to get it done properly without bending my body sideways... hard to explain in english :D
She said it in the he bio. Literally in the second sentence. She said " The proper French term is pique turn en dehors." Lol, most people call them lame ducks or step overs yet she is fully aware lame duck's a nickname. Hope that cleared some confusion.
🤣 why it's a lame duck.. she's too precious. I agree. Been a flyer their whole life... It's just not important as important, I suppose. Let's just leave it at that's what it's called, because we normally look pretty lame when doing it.
me, bored in quarantine, plays soccer, "ooh! I want to learn how to do a lame duck in ballet!" me: "this will be easy!" also me: *does it mediocre* "I WAS BORN TO DO BALLET." warning: i do not take ballet. lol.
