Jadeite masterclass: why it’s one of the hottest asset classes at auctions, and what to look for in a good piece
Auspicious, calming and once reserved for royals and noblemen, jadeite has some of the qualities most desired by the Chinese collector. While often favoured by more mature women because of its fabled ability to protect those who wear it from injuring themselves when they fall, the precious gem has garnered attention beyond its magic-like properties.
Among the hottest asset classes at auction in recent years, jewellery overall has seen a significant boost in both interest and value. Jadeite, with its more Asian collector base, is also seeing a growth in interest.

I am a small designer of high end pieces and have been fortunate enough to become involved with Jadeite, having a source of good quality material (I have quite a lot). I am probably taking a bit of a chance with some of my designs which are eclectic to modern but am hopeful the market will appreciate the beauty of the stone and see that it does suit a broader approach in design.

I love jadeite as a Westerner, but rather than having other stones either accenting or in addition to jadeite, I prefer to have only jadeite by itself in settings, so the focus is on the stone. IMO, jadeite stands alone.

I am American & have been a jade lover all my life. I have various types of jadeite & nephrite from many different countries. But my favorites are untreated type A green Chinese & Russian jadeite. I have always associated Jade with China, as China is the country that has revered jade as the precious stone it is from the beginning. I appreciate a knowledgeable Chinese person discussing jadeite, as I know & appreciate the fact that it has been a way of life in China since the beginning of time, & to me China is "birth place" of jade. Also, rather than the Western designs of putting other gemstones with jadeite, I prefer to have only jadeite in my settings so the focus is on the stone. Jadeite stands alone imo.

Mine . When placed on writing paper the line you can see through the stone on the paper has been moved. Alot. The green stones when turned just so , shows blue. Like a tinge. But quite clear. Clear enough to see the lines on the paper underneath the stones.

I recall seeing a video comparing Guatemalan blue jadeite to Blue Water type jadeite (拦水翡翠) and the person described Guatemalan blue as “dangerous” material likely due to it’s lower price compared to the later. I wonder how true that is.

My blue is in layers mostly with ice like sections over white with purple layers in lesser amounts. The white looks powder blue under the icyblue layers. All a swirl on some pieces. On a few where there is clear glass like sections remaining , a play of the colors oily or matalic are visible to the naked eye but a loup is key in really seeing the colors.

On a few , when a pen light is shone into them the redish purple red shines within. . One blue is a perfect sphere. Another is a point form or two. . On another , a more clear with a streak of faint blue under a cloud with a pink streak. , that one is golden inside when held to the light .

One is bright blue , all are glassy , vitreous..But this one in particular is beautiful. Only a few carats though. . . Someone took the stones and broke them all down to make tools and what not. I got the pieces. Not just blue either. .

1) Antique, hand made, original Chinese jade stone tree. 2)More than 100 years old. 3)Very huge (big) in size about 34 inches in height. 4)One of a kind piece in the world. 5)Hundreds of leaves and petals hand carved with the height of delicacy up till the minutest of details some being carved at 90 degree angle, in mainly all available colors of jade red, purple, violet, black, lavender, iceygreen, whitish opaque, and etc, etc. 6)Base stone. The light green original jade base stone is about 9.25 kilograms in weight and about 28 inches in girth from either sides. 7) wooden base at the bottom also reveales the aging of the master piece. 8)Total tree about approx 15 kilograms plus in weight including wooden base, light green original jade stone base and upper branches with leaves and petals. Note. Gifted to my ensestors by the great Khan of Agroor a state in British India. It is said that the Khan was presented this tree by some very very highly ranking Chinese personality belonging to Chinese royalty.
