I love these videos! I’m learning so much from them, even though I’m not playing the same pieces. Thank you for being so generous with your time and expertise! You’re a real ambassador for our instrument and music-making in general.
Next class on the bow: Most all cellists curl the 1st finger over the stick, the 2nd finger on the metal frog ferrel, the 3rd finger on the fog near the mother of pearl dot, and the 4th finger on top hanging over the stick. I put the first 2 fingers curled over the stick, the 3rd finger on the metal frog ferrel, and the 4th finger curling over the stick. Have done it for years and can't change back. Anything wrong or handicapping with my finger placement?
Thanks for the tips! I found, actually, that watching myself taught me a lot as well, so this is really a great idea! Obviously a camera recording in a big room isn't very flattering, but man I need to slow down and think about intonation :P I'll try planning the bow. I think my focus was on pressure rather than bow use, but maybe that's not the way to go
Tobias Radmer Absolutely! I am also working a lot with video, just recording myself to check on intonation, on sound, and just unexpected things that I didn’t even think of! So this is always helpful. Thank you so much for your video, it was a great contribution!
