I’m at a weird stage in my art, lately I’ve been trying to draw without posting it anywhere, just for myself. Trying to not seek validation, but also not worry about criticism. I’m pretty awful at taking criticism and I definitely take it personally, like all the time. That’s part of the reason. I kind of just want to have fun and not worry about others thoughts, or if it’s good. I don’t even understand a lot of the criticism, and sometimes it feels like people are just using big words just to sound smart. Another reason is because discord is full of awful people who look down on you and crap on you and your work, you get ignored etc, even though you worked really hard. It hurts man. I just think I’m gonna stop using discord, because I always end up arguing with someone. I kind of just want to be a silent artist. I’m too emotional about my work, too worried about if people saw the details. I despise when I post something and all I get is “Good shit, or “Cool” I want people to talk about certain things that I did, instead of just putting it all in one box. Maybe I’m just a narcissist, maybe my work sucks so it’s not worth acknowledging. So I guess for the time being, until I can get my mindset together and not learn to take it personally, I’m not even going to worry about, improving or practice, or anything. I’m just gonna draw the characters that are stuck in my head. Practice is one of the most frustrating things ever, because you don’t know how long your supposed to do a certain subject, everyone gives you advice that goes against what the next person says. It’s so SO frustrating. I hate it and I honestly want to punch one of these people when I think about it. I hate hate hate getting advice from other artists. I always hear, “there are no rules! 😊 “. But then they immediately tell you your not allowed to do something, “you can’t make her spine curve that much. You can’t exaggerate that much. Etc”. SOOO FRUSTRATING. I just think I need a long break from showing people my art, criticism, community, and trying to improve in general. I’m just going to draw what I want, right there, instead of practicing it. And I’ll draw it often. Dragons, cute women, etc. Sick of criticism, sick of the art community that keeps changing rules on what’s okay to do. “Art has no rules , EXCEPT FOR THIS” piss off. Mind you this isn’t directed at you, I’m just venting my experience. Maybe it’s all my fault, but I’m angry. I have so many ideas in my head and I want to get them out, but practicing is just such a kick in the mouth, and the art community is so full of know it alls and idiots. Maybe I’m just not in the right state of mind, and I worry too much. But all I know is that I just want to draw purely for fun right now, and get my little characters out there instead of worrying about practice. I’m just so sick of it man. Thanks for uploading this video.

Hi Zai, first thing first, thanks for the comment! I really appreciate it. Your idea of just drawing for yourself is the best. 100% go for it. People who think they are narcissist are likely not yet a narcissist, however, like you probably already know; narcissist are made-not born. That said, I’m not going to give You art advice, or try to tell you what you need to do bladibla, that’s the crap you’re not looking for right now. However because I did like to read your comment; I’m just going to say how I look at the things you mentioned. Take it or leave it, this is not directed towards you. Doesn’t matter how I sound, like a know it all or whatever; this reply is also for people who just lurk the comment section and read your post and want to see someone’s response to it. ‘’Most people (like myself) just say cool and nice, on an art piece when someone post an illustration but doesn’t ask a question. If you want feedback. Ask for it. And just ‘’how do I improve?’’ is not enough. Ask specific questions, ‘’I think the eyes are not the best, any ideas how to make them better?” is something people can work with/opens a discussion. Art community is full of jealousy and people with autism who sometimes rephase a comment ‘’the wrong way’’ (this is not meant as a negative, just the facts). Be it online or off-line in an Art-course with a teacher walking around, there are all kinds of people who think they are this or that. Some people might say ‘’I love the eyes’’ well, you know it is the worst point of your art piece, deep down you know it sucks. Depending on the person who says he/she loves it, it can be either to try and takeaway your insecurities OR if they are narcissistic/heavy jealous they want you to do more on what you’re bad at. It’s true, some people want you to level down instead of up. I think taking a step back in art (keep the drawings for yourself) is the right thing to do. Also everyone learns differently, believe me, I learn different then most people do and I actually keep A lot of ‘’practice tips’’ to myself because I know some things are way too specific for my situation and will only help a few others. This is also why most artist try to generalize things to keep as much people happy but confuse the other who learn differently. And agreed, ‘’there are no rules vs there are rules’’ IS confusing. The way I see it: Good art is different from ‘’bad art’’ because good artist learned the rules and know how to break them. Okay, cool , so what does this mean? It’s like this: if the wind comes from the left, and thus pushes the MC’s cape to the right, it’s a logical display. However what if the cape suddenly would wave to the left? As if the wind changed direction for a fraction in time and space. Sometimes the art piece looks way better this way, despite that the leaves, the hair and the rest of the clothes indicate that the wind comes from the left pushing to the right.’’ Again, this was not directed to you. But do take care man, honestly all the best. Just enjoy whatever you want to do!

@@GameArts1 Hey man I really appreciate your reply, and saying just as much back to me. I really love your channel, because I really appreciate game art. I’m excited to watch your Tetsuya Nomura video, because I take from his style, (the sharpness in TWEWY). I appreciate you validating my opinion of just wanting to keep it to myself, because I worry that without critique I won’t improve, but thanks for helping me realize it’s a fine thing to do. Yeah your definitely right about asking questions when you post, I definitely shouldn’t just expect people to say something when I post, I should try to interact with others. And you are right about the whole “there are no rules/there are rules. The way you put it makes sense for sure. Maybe I just need to put more thought into it. But it definitely annoys me when people will look at an exaggerated pose of a character, and then say your not supposed to to it, because it doesn’t look “COMFORTABLE?!?” Like….dude it’s a drawing, it doesn’t need to be…Comfortable, are you kidding me??!! I see so many poses where the character would be breaking their spine, but it looks appealing so it really doesn’t matter. This is me venting again, but something I also hate is when I see some really well done art with great linework and shading, maybe it’s even colored. And the person who posted it says “doodle”, or “lunch doodle”. Or “warmup”. And it really pisses me off because something like that would take me hours or multiple days. It definitely is me being jealous. But a part of me thinks they say these things just to flex or show off, I honestly consider just ignoring posts that say something like “doodle”, when it looks super nice. Like is it actually just a flex? Or maybe they are just that good they can pump this stuff out. Anyway thanks for chatting with me, sorry I unloaded all that, it’s just a frustrating journey. Especially frustrating when people try to tell you what your allowed to draw, even though YOUR the one who spent years cultivating your skills. (I’m mainly talking about when I read comments on posts, and people will try to control what the artist makes, be it a story where a character is bullied, sexy art (why are her x so big etc). Heck, recently an artist posted that ALL ARTISTS are REQUIRED to learn how to draw all body types and disabled people. Although I’m sure it was to farm clout, but the idea is still a thing, trying to force people to draw body types that aren’t traditionally attractive,. Let people draw what they want. It’s your skill that you worked for. It really burns me up when an artist succumbs to the will of their commenters, apologizing for posting stuff. I honestly don’t know where I was going, but it’s just some other stuff I’ve been seeing lately. Basically how art is supposed to be whatever you want, but people who don’t even draw, and even artists try to tell you what is art. You can draw art of people dying, but if you draw something sexual or with a nipple, it’s suddenly not art. Gotta love priorities. Anyways. I’m rambling too much. Thanks for replying to me, your awesome

Haha np man! Yeah indeed, screw the people who want you to draw ‘everything’. That’s the biggest BS ever. I had to laugh ‘’breaking a spine’’ yes that’s so true, even pro’s let their characters break a spine if it looks cool haha. About the doodle shit, yeah 99% they are flexing and here is my rant on them: Tiktok artist who pretend they are good rehearse there ‘’speed-drawing’’ like 5-10x before they upload something ‘’professional’ and claim it to be a doodle. You know who are great with a ‘’doodle’’? The real pro’s doing live drawings at conventions for fans. The real pro’s know their MC’s in and out. Drew them 1000x at least. Tetsuya Nomura can ‘’doodle’’ a Cloud because he is the man who created him. Any imposter can’t just doodle a professional looking Cloud if we ask them at this very moment and if they do, I’ll ask ‘’do Squall next bro, do it here right on the spot, show me.’’ Newsflash they CAN’T because they only practiced Cloud’s head from one angle. (Yes, it’s that sad) Of course great artist have great fundamentals but we’re talking about highly talented artist (started at a young age) who have been at it for at least a minimum 40+ hours workweek for 15-20 years. Aka master level. Also the real pro’s are humble and know there is much to learn, they simply don’t flex. Stay awesome yourself bro!
