Dropping down to sidearm saved my college baseball career. I was always a low 3/4 pitcher. I was constantly in the mid 80’s in high school and dominated. I dominated because I played for a small high school and the competition wasn’t great. I remember the first time I pitched in college during a live scrimmage. I was thinking I’m going to over this guy. I threw a 86 mph fastball and the dude parked it off the light pool in right center😂. If I remember correctly it was still going up when it hit the pool. It was humbling to say the least. I knew right then I had a lot to learn. I barely saw the field my freshman year. When the season ended I had meeting with my pitching coach. Coach was brutally honest. He said you’re not a power pitcher and you’ll never be one. I want you to drop your arm slot and throw sidearm to generate more movement. I was hesitant but I knew I wasn’t going to play unless I changed my approach. I worked with one of the assistant coaches who threw sidearm his whole career. I worked my tale and learned to throw a low 80’s two seemed fastball the dove down and in to righty’s and tailed away from lefty’s. I had a great change up and a ok slurve. By my jr. year was able to develop good command and I lead the team in era and innings pitched. My point is, you can be successful getting outs with having a mid 90’s fastball.

You should check out disc golf. A former side arm pitcher can work magic in that niche sport.

Why does everyone say that throwing sidearm is gonna break my arm? I throw harder and better while throwing the sidearm and slower and less accurate when throwing overarm.
