Excellent tutorial, well-paced, and thorough. I watched it 3-4 times to be sure I didn't miss anything. Used it to take a 2D image of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks logo and make a 3D SVG file that I post-processed and printed with my 3D Printer. It was a Christmas gift for a grandson who is a senior there. This process will be used many times in the future for all kinds of special gifts and personal items, including our grandchildren at NC State, Ohio State, & Syracuse.
Hi, I have found your tutorials really informative, I’ve recently purchase a Flux Beamo and been pulling my hair out trying to figure how to do layers. I’ve watched a majority of your videos and feel like I can get somewhere with my laser cutter now, one of the best videos I’ve seen. You deserve a lot more followers
Loved your narrative tutorial style, I’m about to buy a laser and need to know how to create multilayered svg files. This is a perfect starting point . Loved how you left all the mistakes in, I will be making many and it’s good to see someone making them and rectifying them. I have used Inkscape for making single layer svg’s but hadn’t realised that you could do the multiple layered ones, I had almost abandoned my need to create original files but now I can see that your video will help me achieve my goal. Best wishes from England 😊
I really had to play around in the software but thank you for posting this tutorial. Now I don’t need Illustrator to make SVGs. You just made my life so much easier with my new Cricut.
Thank for this one. I was trying to make an svg from an image using an online svg converter and it would just make it black and white and randomly seperate pieces. Gonna try this tonight😁
You can restack (change the order of the objects) all at once by going to Extension > Arrange > Restack and then choose Radial Inward as the direction. I've not tested other directions but I assume other ones may work too.
@@ashleefalco I replied with a link to a video I made but doesn't look like it's here anymore so I'll explain it. At 6:16 you Break Apart the Trace Bitmap. Then at 7:00 you drag the teeth over to the solid black Spongebob object. The teeth object is behind the solid black object so you reorder. What you can do, after you Break Apart the Trace Bitmap, is select all of the objects created from the Break Apart. Then go to the Extensions Menu, choose Arrange, and then choose Restack. Another window will pop-up. There is a dropdown where you can select different directions. Radial Inward typically works for me, but I tested it with Top to Bottom and that worked as well. After you choose your direction, click Apply. Now the order of all of the objects created from the Break Apart will be reversed. For example, if you did a restack of the objects you wouldn't have to manually bring each object to the front of the solid black Spongebob object. If there's a better way to send you a link to the video I made please let me know. I'm sure you would understand better if you saw it in action.
just for you to know (because you actually read this). I come back here every now and then, to review and every time I learn something new :D we need more of this, can you grab different "challenging images" so we can continue learning?
This is a great tutorial! Thank you! I am having an issue with the separating the black back from the squares. It does not give me the option to move it once I do the break apart. If i move it, the entire thing goes with it and does not leave the cut outs behind. Any suggestions?
Excellent tutorial! I watched the Gnome video you did which enabled it to cut on laser. How can i cut this image in laser similar to Gnome. I was thinking one backing layer and then all pieces of different colours stuck on it to make spongebob. Can you please help on how i can do that :) many thanks
so you saved Sponge Bob and then you said saved as a "Cut", I am brand new at this never done one thing ever and need to know what does saved as CUT mean, can I use this on my glow forge pro and cut, engrave and score or does saved as cut mean that I have to go in now and change the line colors for engrave and score
Been trying to do this for days and days😂 one question is there a way to centre/ group the design before saving so it looks nice I don't know what thing do on inkscape. BUT a huge thank you for this
the way I showed how to do it, there really isn't a super easy way to get it all back on top of each other where they're suppose to be, outside of manually putting it back and lining it up yourself. :(
Really fan, it helped me a lot for my Cricut motiver. However could you help how to make dots or strokes on a motive transparent. Then the clothes to where it is vinyl is applied malkes the dots in that color
@@ashleefalco Hi sorry for that. I would like that the spourunding lines and the shadow lines could be transparent so when you ion on fabric the lines get the color of the fabric. It is difficult to describe :)
Hi can you help me please, i am watching your video but for some reason when i go to trace bitmap it does it but when i move the image over its empty?. I have uninstalled inkscape and reinstalled it and its doing the same thing its not tracing
Is it possible to adjust the corners on an individual layer? It seems when i use the "smooth" tool it rounds out my sharp corners and it distorts the actual look of the image
hello. I am not a copyright attorney, so I cannot answer this question. I'd suggest contacting an attorney for the correct answers and not fellow crafters with zero experience in law
Hope you are well, I am following your steps but when I ungroup I am getting blocks of colour what am I doing wrong (unable to insert photo I’ve taken to explain). Thank you so much for your help
its hard for me to be 100% sure what's going on without actually having eyes on what you're doing. But my initial suggestion is to bump up (or lower) the brightness threshold when you're trying to trace bitmap.
Oh this make me so sad to hear!!! Here is a more basic Inkscape video showing you the same thing as the SpongeBob. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jE2hERwFn6o.html I do suggest watching the video and doing the same steps as me at the same time. I believe this may help with confusion:
