Phenomenal explanation man! Seriously. I learned and tested on an auto to get my CDL but I’m looking to have that restriction lifted from my license with my current company and this was helpful! Haven’t driven a manual commercial vehicle since 2019 but that was a box truck 6 speed. The 10 speed in most tractors will be new to me but I’m excited to try it out!

The speed limit addition to figure your gear, fkn genious!!

Our instructor has us downshift to third gear and start in third gear on flat roads. On downhill turns onto the road start in 5th gear. I think I get it now. Thanks.

Junior was so easy to understand. I too am a brand new driver. I went to school last year. I have to say my teacher was terrible & humiliated me & ridiculed me. I was successful getting the cdl. I pass my CDL this month class A test with first attempt with EZ WHEELS! In the yard, they teach you how to do anything correctly. Just follow what they say and you will pass!

I was taught to do everything in 200s. When upshifting, rev to 1200rpm, clutch in, neutral, and clutch in and in gear before 1,000rpm. When down shifting, go to neutral at 800rpm, then rev to 1,000 and it slides right in

Can I just go by the sound of the engine to shift?

I drove for the first time. It’s very different when you are driving. I felt like I had it until I drove 🤦🏾‍♀️

Whats if the speed limit is 40 miles per hour, what gear should your truck be in ? And how did you come up with your answer ?

I’m in school and we hit the clutch to shift gears. We just let go of the gas pedal and it switches gears. This way that your demonstrating is completely new to me lol

when you are changing to down gears 5 to 1 that shift button, is the gear lever supposed to be in neutral or

would that speed limit trick work for Kilometers as well ?

Junior, show them how to downshift on a downhill and uphill. Also, show them how to park with a 53’ trailer not 45. Last, show how the offset works. This will help them so much. The offset is the hardest park of this business.

In saskatchewan, you can't use a 10 speed for your road test. Only 18 speed or 13 speed is allowed for road test, and 48 foot trailer minimum

Very informative. But the only thing I believe he left out is when shifting down two gears, you need to have the RPM lower to 700 to 800 then clutch Neutral then accelerator to 1000 to 1200 then shift two gear down.

I don't watch RMPs I listen to my truck engine and watch my road speed and shift the truck up or down downshifting at 10RPM is too slow I drop them at 1500 mostly the high range.

One issue with this instruction is we cannot keep our hand on the gear shift if not actively shifting - hands on the wheel otherwise.

Why are u double clutching ? Can’t u just float them with the proper rpm

If your using the clutch after 1st u need to learn to float n save the clutch

You dont need to clutch unless you are taking off from dead stop or backing up. I always float the gears

It is a good explanation, but this school is in New Jersey bringing trucks on the exam from the junkyard to fail their students and sell them more hours. Also, they don't teach properly the pre-trip check. In 1 month period, I was only shown once how to do it, and most of us students failed the air brake check.

We got yelled at for saying gas in a diesel truck. We always had to say give it fuel.

Stupid video. Truck drivers never double clutch they float gears. Clutch is only used to start moving from a red light or stop sign.. no clutch needed after the truck starts moving. Regardless of many the transmission gears

Bro, that was an amazing explanation. I've been learning with my uncle and he's been driving for 40+ years and never told me any of this info. Learning with him has kind of been hard for me because he is old school mentality and just expects me to know it and figure it out. He doesn't view it from a greenhorn perspective lol. Im constantly asking him questions but the main thing I get out of driving with him is getting that driving experience because he owns his own truck. The mileage to what gear you should be in is the specific part im taking away from this video.
