i open my eyes wider for photographs because I'm asian and always naturally squinting, also the wide eye look is better for the deranged psyocopath look I want for most pictures.

It isn't for everyone in every case. Squinching is specific to certain headshots and portraits. You wouldn't use it for example in a family portrait. It would look too weird. With Peter's type of photography, it def works.

I've been squinching since forever ago...long before you gave it a name! The reason I always made myself squinch was because I'm one of "those" people who will invariably shut their eyes as soon as the shutter fires, and this method of squinching helped me control that. Amazing to see the impact in your video in terms of how much better everyone looks! It's so subtle but does make such a difference!

Something that helped me learn how to use just the lower lid is to squint or even close your eyes, and then try and open them only using the upper lids. This helped me get a feel for the muscles that are in use and now I'm able to move just the lower lids.

Peter or producer/director of the video, please take better care of the audio next time. Everytime Peter shouts "shabang", it is very very loud and the audio is clipping! The result is extremely unpleasent, both because of the sudden rise in level but especially with the nasty clipping on top of it. In order to get a better sound next time, plan for Peter's enthusiasm ahead and record the audio much lower. In times of 24bit recording that is not a problem. Then do some compression/limiting to even out the audio a little bit so that the shouts don't jump out too much and raise the overall level accordingly

Smiling with your eyes never defined anything for anyone. Narrowing the distance between your lower eyelid and your pupil gives people something substantial that people can actually understand. Look at the GMA coverage on the squinch to see what I mean.

I don't know the real difference between squinching and smiling with your eyes.This is based on my obvervations. Some of the pictures showed that their lip corners were raised slightly. Probably more of the smize pictures involved the lip corners than the squinch pictures.

Guy at 9:35 nailed it. But even though this will make you look more confident ( because that ever so slightly cocky squint looks great on camera ) most of these examples still doesn't look that good, proves that if you're ugly, that's pretty much it. It could also be that most of them looks even more awkward because they're thinking too hard on how to nail the look.

I don't see how "Squinch" makes those people look better, in most of those examples there is little to no difference to me. in some cases "non-Squinch" is even better version!

He states that the eyes are one of the most telling parts of someone's face. The deer in the headlights look, especially for headshots, doesn't capture "confidence and approachability." The point of a headshot, whether for an actor or professional, is to draw people in. The point of the video is not to discuss what you like better as the purpose of a headshot typically isn't driven by a need for art. It's driven by the idea that someone wants to make a connection with the person in the photo.

I don't agree with this at all. The women look better with their eyes wide. Squinching does not make them look better at all. The more white around the eyes the more feminine and prettier they look.

I do this all the time! I'm a bit on the husky side AND I already have a round face as it is, so I've learned to do this to add some jaggedness to my expression. Now I know it has a name lmao Thanks for this!
