Interesting discussion. I learned things I didn't know. Music supervision is not as clear cut as being a composer, actor or director. Why is the position called music supervisor? What is being supervised? It seems to be more like placement for on-camera/off-camera songs/instrumentals, underscore (selection of composer) and title theme (selection of composer and/or songwriter). If this is true, and there's network/record company ties, it seems that no one outside the inner circle could ever get their music to the supervisor with any shot at having it realistically considered. Do you know of any instance where a maverick creator was able to get placement for a TV show? Would like to hear the story...
