Sorry to correct you friend, but no he was NOT massively popular in Asia. Lee sadly, had died a "nobody" and when he was buried in the U.S. there was zero paparazzi or news coverage because he was NEVER famous at all when he was alive. Lee DID get to have 15 minutes of fame though in a little corner of the world called Honk Kong, a tiny island whose mainland is 31 square miles. In Hong Kong he actually got to taste a BRIEF moment of celebrity but a taste that was for only a mere....1 year and 10 months 😥 It was during this time where in ONE single year he tried to make three different movies and released them all within that twelve months. So he experienced woman + children flocking to his feet, cameras snapping at him, being guests on tv shows, invited to events and even received an award. It was the last final 1 year and 10 months of his life that he touched a bit of fame on and ONLY on Hong Kong, his home town. The rest of Asia did NOT know him, not Korea, not Japan, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, not even CHINA. One year of making those three little movies was not enough time to establish his name in Asia, and were he to go to any Asian countries he would NOT get any VIP treatment as he was a nobody to Asia, altho he did have the chance of 2 out of 10 people possibly knowing him in Asia, so 8 out of 10 would NOT know him in Asia. And certainly ZERO out of 10 would know him in the rest of the world. When he released his only real movie, Enter The Dragon, it was his GLOBAL debut. This film introduced Lee to Asia and basically to the rest of the world. Shocked by Enter The Dragon, the world wanted to know who he was, sadly he wasn't around to answer. His death was before the release of the film. Moreover, it wasn't until two decades later did Lee get acknowledged as a household name due to the legacy of his life experiences people would unearth for years. The biggest demographic that Lee had became popular with and earned respect was athletes and fighters, these were the people who followed his writings + philosophy the most and even tried to discover his training regimen, nutrition, and any secret techniques for fitness and power. These days he's the most famous thing ever, one of the biggest influences on Comic Books according to Stan Lee, and simply a household name. There are many celebrities who become even MORE famous after thier death, such as James Dean, Kurt Cobain, Elvis Presley, etc etc, but all of them were celebrities FIRST, people who enjoyed fame for years if not decades. Lee however was NEVER famous while he was alive, his fame would come only decades after his death as Enter The Dragon caught their attention and research of the man's life would unearth astounding facts hard to believe, which would contribute to his slow rise to fame.

@@smedleybutler1969 : Have you ever heard of "Hercules in New York"? Most people hadn't, but it was Arnold Schwarzenegger's first role. But nobody cared because it's low key, only when he did "Conan The Barbarian" did everyone recognize Arnolds name. "Conan" was basically Arnold's "Enter The Dragon", it's what debut their name and put them on the map. So No, Green Hornet was never a big hit or some large amazing public grand rave. Not even a little bit. Very few even cared about the GreenHornet crossover with Adam West, and Green Hornet only got one season and was immediately cancelled. Nobody knew of who Bruce Lee was EVEN with the Green Hornet show. Like I already mentioned, it was only his home town of HONG KONG who cared about that Green Hornet show, they were stunned that there was a CHINESE guy somehow on a prime time American show (thus Hong Kong called it the Kato show). HONG KONG noticed him, but not Asia, not America, not nobody. Green Hornet did nothing for him fame-wise, but it did get his foot in the door, just like "Hercules in New York" did for Arnolds foot in the door. As for Longstreet, it received one critics acclaimed review but that's about it (Bruce really cherished that article by the way). Nobody really cared about Longstreet, there was no mass public approval or rave. "Green Hornet" is like Arnolds "Hercules in New York", and even tho that never made either of them famous, they WERE both very famous inside the circles of their own professions: Arnold was 7 time Mr. Universe and Bruce Lee was a pillar of the Martial Art community. So in their respective fields, yes they were well known and revered, but OUTSIDE of Bodybuilding or Martial Art nobody knew these guys even with "Green Hornet" and "Hercules in New York": to the public they were nobodies. As I also ALREADY mentioned, when Bruce Lee died there wasn't ONE news coverage on it. There were no headlines, no news announcement, no media about it, even in the slightest. Because why would there be?? Media coverage on a nobody?? No. When Enter The Dragon was released; NOT ONE PERSON IN AMERICA KNEW WHO THE STAR WAS. He was a total nobody.

Just check out the Box Office reception sections of the initial runs for his first three big martial arts films before Enter the Dragon on their respective pages on Wikipedia. Basically, anywhere where his movies were sold in Asia, they did very, very well and his audiences there were well-aware of Bruce Lee by the time Enter the Dragon was released in '73.

However, Bruce messed up and actually connected. Jackie said Bruce stayed in point until the director yelled cut a few seconds later. Then he dropped the staff and ran to check on Jackie. He was the closest to a superhuman, along with maybe two strongmen all time. It's said he weighed about 140 pounds, he could hold a dumbbell of his weight, but holding it with his arm locked out in front of his chest. I don't think I can believe it unless there's a vid. Human physiology is limited in strength when holding your arm straight out. You start using only your shoulder muscles and those muscles don't get very big, or very strong. To actually do it would be a superhuman feat.

He's the most exaggerated person in modern history. I've seen the video you're refering to: pretty much everything it says is provably false. It's genuinely irritating how willing people are to believe this cult like nonsense surrounding Bruce Lee simply because he was a big movie star. Bruce Lee was cool as hell and he made awesome movies; I wish people would have a realistic picture of him instead of buying into this superman narrative. Bruce Lee was an actor with a bad back, who had no fighting experience worth speaking of. We have footage of him working and sparring and that footage alone should be enough to disprove EVERY SINGLE STORY about his superhuman feats, even if you didn't bother fact checking them in any other way. I suspect you believe he holds multiple world records, because that video told you he does. And you never bothered loading up the actual Guinness book of world records website to see if he actually does (spoiler alert: he holds none of the records his stans claim he does, and he never did).

Philosopher first really, and his martial arts prowess came as a result of that. The whole boat and rope scene is a great representation of that. He popularized martial arts in films and brought them West. He taught many actors of his generation in the West and publicly exhibited his feats when he came to the US. I think it was in San Diego where he demonstrated the now-famous one-inch punch. This guy was on a level that hardly anyone can approach, his dedication was absolute and he is in my top tier level of artists of all-time: Miles Davis, Mozart, Bruce Lee, Hildegard von Bingen, and Jimi Hendrix. There's simply nobody like them, and they should be celebrated until the end of all things. "Your powers are EXTRA ORDINARY." So cheesy but so iconic and good. (2) Jim Kelly (Mr. Williams) was also quick with his strikes. So much so that he impressed even Bruce Lee. Lee suggested to the execs that Williams survive Han's attack to fight in the final battle scene with Mr. Roper against Han's guards. They turned down the request. Lee then decided to cast Kelly to co-star in "Game of Death" along with Chuck Norris, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Robert Wall (O'Harra) and George Lazenby ("On Her Majesty's Secret Service"). Unfortunately, Lee passed prior to the film's completion.

Bruce was actually so fast they had to use a high speed camera. The regular speed of 24 frames a second wasn't quick enough to register, so the other guy looked like he was falling down for no reason. But he did have doubles for the gymnastics. He said he was going to learn to do his own flips, but of course, he died young, before this movie was even release. He died working on Game Of Death, and it had to be finished with doubles but not for the fighting. The guy who's neck he broke fighting the guards in Han's factory was Jackie Chan. Bruce did actually have to hurt one of the stuntmen on the location who challenged him. But because they guy was going to be in the hospital for some time after that and couldn't work Bruce gave his mother a bunch of money so they wouldn't be broke while he recovered. He was a genuinely nice guy.

This was supposed to be an introductory role for Bruce Lee as an American Movie star. He had been on US TV as a sidekick on the show The Green Hornet. There was a TV hit show called Kung Fu in the 1970s written specifically for him but the Network executives thought he was "too Chinese" for American TV so they gave the role to David Carradine a Caucasian who was supposed to be half-Chinese. Lee went to Hong Kong and made a few other movies to establish himself as a viable international star and then the opportunity to return to the US market presented itself with Enter the Dragon. Even though this was supposed to be his coming out party as a movie star, the studio executives still couldn't handle an Asian as the lead, which is why they made Roper, played by John Saxon, as the co-hero. If you want to see another Bruce Lee movie, I would check out Return of the Dragon. It was actually made before Enger the Dragon, but was released in the US later. Lee not only starred in the role, but wrote and directed it too. It's a bit campy but the big opponent is Chuck Norris in his breakout role. Both were known at the time much more for their marital arts expertise than their acting roles.

this movie holds up so well. this was not the original release in theaters in the 70,s they did a re-release in the early 80,s with added footage. Saw the original release in theaters shortly after his death. at the time they used state of the art tech. it was a packed house of men and women. there was no movie out with that kind of production value with a non white leading action hero. the stars involved along with location shooting and getting to see bruce lee in a major american film without it being dubbed. basically bruce lee playing bruce lee made it a magical experience. the audience reacted to every move every word he said on screen. i will never forget that experience. created a vacuum in the martial arts film industry for a decade after his death as the film industry attempted to look for another bruce lee. Lots of pressure was put on his son brandon to make for the loss. that was unfortunate now they're both gone

If you liked this, you should see some of his screen test footage for The Green Hornet. And a few years later, he talks philosophy in an interview with Dick Cabot, and he had some very Zen-like philosophies on life and the things he learned from jsut about an entire lifetime of learning martial arts. You should check that out. It also includes on of my favorite lines from a tv show he did called Marlowe: "Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless. Like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can be a tiny drip off a rock, but large amounts of it can wash away mountains. It can flow and drip and crash. Be water, my friend." Bruce Lee was a very intelligent man, always improving himself not only in body but in mind. It's some of the many reasons he is so revered by the global martial arts community.

Bruce created his own martial arts style called Jeet Kune Do, Brice also created books to help you learn Gung Fu aka Kung Fu; my brother actually learned from them and my brother taught himself how to work the nunchucks. Bruce also had a degree in Philosophy the art of fighting without fighting; basically use your mind first then if you must defend yourself, so be it, this includes biting someone to get out of a choke hold; Bruce never kicked someone above the knees in a real competition and he waa famous also for the one inch punch, he finger push ups, he had to slow down on screen he moves so fast, also he created MMA, Jeet Kune Do is a mixture of various Martial arts, including wrestling and grappling, see the fighting outfit he had on at the beginning of the movie; typical MMA gear.

Check out The Game of Death. Bruce's last movie. He was actually filming it before Enter the dragon. but Hollywood came to China/Hong Kong to sign Bruce to a James Bond type of movie. Hence, Enter the Dragon. Bruce filmed all the big fight scenes before he died sudden. For the use of Bruce's filmed fights, it's worth the watch. The intro/theme music is great too. Very classic Sean Connery 1960's James Bond like.

1:21 - In most Chinese action films, the fight scenes are filmed at a slow pace to get everything right and then the footage is sped up to normal speeds. With Bruce Lee, they had to slow down the film so people could see what was happening. 4:06 - Bruce Lee was a major Hong Kong action star, but in the US he was only known as Kato on the TV series The Green Hornet. This film was going to be (and was) his big break-out international hit, but unfortunately Lee died shortly before the film's release. All of his 'American' films after Enter the Dragon were rereleases of his older Chinese films. 11:59 - The art of Fighting Without Fighting. 16:26 - BMI wasn't really a thing in Bruce Lee's time, but it's been calculated at 8% from his other stats. 19:06 - Where do you think Anime got it from? 24:55 - It's not a matter of 'being enough.' Oharrah bringing dangerous weapons into the fight is nothing but the signal for Bruce to STOP HOLDING BACK. 30:02 - Williams absolutely didn't deserve this fate, and unfortunately, that's why the moment is so effective. 32:51 - Young Jackie Chan.

Bruce Lee was a champion martial artist who created his own style he called 'Jeet Kune Do'... He came under fire in America because he was teaching martial arts to non-Chinese students... His wife Linda said he beat a challenger within 3 minutes, earning the right to teach martial arts to anyone he pleased in his school... His reputation as a fighter got him cast in a TV show. In 1966/ '67... he was cast as 'Cato', the sidekick to actor Van Williams' masked hero 'The Green Hornet'... They appeared in an episode of 'Batman' (the series) where Cato fights Robin, the boy wonder... According to the show's producers, Bruce Lee moved so fast that they asked him to do his fight scenes slower because their cameras could not capture his movements. Afterwards, Bruce Lee discovered that American and Hollywood filmmakers would not cast him in lead role because he was Chinese and Asian... he always had supporting roles. But in Hong Kong, he was already a star because of 'The Green Hornet' (They called it the 'Cato show' there) An offer to film in Hong Kong led to Bruce Lee's first lead movie 'The Big Boss' in 1971. It became a massive hit in Asia... 2nd movie 'Fist of Fury' (1972) did even better... Lee had full control of his 3rd movie 'The way of the Dragon' in 1972 where he filmed a fight sequence w/ Chuck Norris... He was working on the movie 'Game of death' in 1972 when got an offer to make a Hollywood kung-fu movie after the success of his Hong Kong movies... Lee was able to film a fight scene w/ basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for 'Game of death'... Despite being the star of 'Enter the Dragon'... Bruce Lee had to share the lead role w/ martial artists John Saxon and Jim Kelly... Lee also staged the fighting sequences in the movie... In fact, one of the extras who fights Lee's character was a young Jackie Chan. When 'Enter the Dragon' finished filming in 1973, Bruce Lee was reportedly working long hours in the studio to complete the movie and combined w/ the toll of filming... his health began to suffer and he was reportedly hospitalized. With 'Enter the Dragon' completed and near release, Bruce Lee did not pause to rest and was back in Hong Kong working on 'Game of death'... His death came under mysterious circumstances in 1973 at age 32 ... he was given a pain medication after complaining of a headache and took a nap. He never woke up after that. He was rushed to the hospital and declared dead... Autopsy showed he had suffered a cerebral edema, the cause of which could have been sensitivity to the medication he took... or a heat stroke; he had been hospitalized for the same affliction before but had survived then. It raised quite a few conspiracy theories about Bruce Lee being murdered or poisoned. 'Enter the Dragon' premiered a week after his death; it became 1 of the biggest box office hits of 1973... Bruce Lee's short film career made him a legend in martial arts and his death left a huge void in the kung fu movie genre... Numerous Bruce Lee clones emerged in the Hong Kong & Asian movie industry, including Bruce Li... Dragon Lee... Bruce Le ... and even early Jackie Chan.

So cool she's introduced to Bruce Lee!! Loved both your reactions here Nick, btw when you say "we'd like to see more Bruce Lee movies", funnily he never made any! Well, he tried three of them in Hong Kong, but all three he made in one single year (and all 3 released in that same year!). So you can check those out, but besides that attempt, this film Enter The Dragon was basically his debut to the world, including to Asia! So this was his first and real, bona fide, authentic, big budget movie, but sadly he died before it was even released. Had he not died he certainly would have started an acting career, this film was supposed to be the beginning of that. If you add those 3 chop saki films he did in a single year to this EnterTheDragon, they were all made at the very last 1.5 years of his life! Meaning the whole "movie thing" only happened at the last 5% of his life. Therefore that would logically beg the question; if the whole movie thing was only at the last 5%...what then was he doing for 95% of his life?? Answer: he was a pillar of the Martial Art community and a veteran at live combat. Champions, Black Belts, and pro fighters all knew of his reputation of being undefeated in a live altercation, of which there are so many in his life where none could defeat him. That jerk in the scene with "The art of fighting without fighting" is Peter Archer who is actually a pro fighter in Karate Tournaments, the villain with the beard is also a black belt in Karate, the black dude Williams was a former pro tennis player but more importantly he was two time Karate champion who would go on to say that Bruce Lee would fight many known champions behind closed doors and was undefeated. So the film is chock full of real fighters because that's the type of caliber you would HAVE to place with Bruce Lee. Even the big giant guy, Bolo, is a ten year Body Building Champion of Hong Kong! The reason he was a veteran at live combat is because his fighting experience began as a boy in Hong Kong in the streets where he would become the leader of the Hong Kong street gang known as "The Tigers 8 of Junction Street". When he became an adult and moved to America the fighting still continued where many had challenged him but none could defeat him. Part of the main reason he had to leave Hong Kong was because the "heat" of all the gang fighting was escalating to a boiling point where the Triads put a contract on his head and he and much of his cohorts had to flee the island, and so Lee's Dad exiled him to the states because they would not find him there and Lee could simultaneously take advantage of his American citizenship (as Lee was born in California, but after 3 months had left to be raised in Hong Kong). Here is a link to view his fight history www.deviantart.com/cowardsrunandrunand/art/1064574936 His uncanny combat skills were not the only amazing thing but rather his near superhuman strength; Lee has been ranked in the The Top 50 Greatest Athletes of All Time because he could raise unbelievable weights that pro weight lifters could not. As I mentioned how Bolo was the 10 year BodyBuilding Champ of Hong Kong, well Bolo could deadlift the same weight as Arnold Schwarzenegger, 715 lbs, and yet during one of their work out sessions that Lee and Bolo had together, Bolo stated that he was surprised that Lee could lift much heavier weights than he could. It's sad that Bruce Lee only made one real film and died just before it was released, but that film which you just watched had left such a lasting impression that people had to go back and discover those 3 other quick chop saki films he made in a single year (the year just before ETD) and maybe you guys yourselves can check those 3 out (Big Boss, Fist of Fury, Way of The Dragon). If anything, I'd rather recommend you guys watch "Bruce Lee, My Brother" a biopic of his gang fighting, and also the only interview we have of the man by "Pierre Burton". But yeah, he only made films in the last 1.5 years of his life, where he basically was reporting his entire life experiences and sharing his insights to the public of what live combat is like if it were by a Martial Art master. Sorry for the rant! Glad you guys enjoyed his one single film that he left behind which grabbed the world attention to back track and discover the amazing life he had lead!
