A series on fragrance categories is a great idea! You mentioned citrus, flowers and woods. I was hoping you could do a video on incense scents as well.
I also really like sandalwood. To me, the most genuine scent of this wood is found in Acqua di Parma's SANDALO. A long-lasting fragrance that sorounds you with a solomn, religious aura. I associate the scent with oriental temples.
Vintage Guerlain Samsara especially in EDT is my ride or die Sandalwood. Nothing compares to you! I still search for Sandalwoods that I like more and I can't still haven't found one. Great list and thank you for sharing:)
Great review. Love it. I like the smell of Diptyque Tam Dao, but for me the Performance is really Bad. I smell it only 40 minutes to 1 hour on my Clothes and 1 hour on my Skin :( I ordered the EdP and I Hope it will last longer 😊
I love Tam Dao. I got the chance to smell it about 2 weeks ago. I bought a sample of Black Afgano and wore it a few times. It’s too heavy for me, and because it’s so strong it’s something you’d better love because you’re stuck with it until you shower again 😅. Duro is probably more my style in the Nasomatto range.
I would have added Creed Royal Oud for the cedar note, and the earthy rootiness the angelica gives it. If one other would have to be removed to make way for it I would take out Tom Ford Oud Wood. I've heard Tam Dao referred to as the first word and the last word in woody fragrances. Its very good but does not perform well. Frederic Malle French Lover is pretty good too.
I own Encre noire and Encre noire sport, might have to add Encre noire a l'extreme to my collection as well. Hope you get better soon Ashley. Also wow, you are already so close to 10k!!
For me, it's Bois Imperial from Essential Parfums, created by Quentin Bisch. Fresh and clean wood, sort of a green take on a blue fragrance. Some people like to compare it to Bisch's more famous Ganymede. I haven't tried it so i couldn't tell.
The Tam Dao sandalwood note compares to the sandalwood note in the original Xerjoff's Richwood for a much cheaper price. I didn't understand the sandalwood note found in fragrances like Sacred Wood by Kilian as well as other sandalwood fragrances with that same interpretation of the sandalwood note. Also, I found dabbing Richwood is my preferred wear of fragrance application, it just smells amazing as compared to spray. Can you explain the differences in the sandalwood note? I love your picks, a few other woody fragrances that come to mind I enjoy besides vintage Creed Royal Oud: - Perfect Oud Mizensir excellent - Carved Oud Thameem very similar to TF Oud wood excellent - Boadicea Green/Carbon Sapphire - Wow - Andrea Mack Craft good - Milky Musk Parle Moi good I can't wait until you release your first woody fragrance, I'm in line to purchase.

I received a complement from a friend just two days ago when I wore Encre Noir. I'll pick up Extreme. I can't pass up a chance to expand my collection with such an affordable fragrance. Maybe I'll give my sample size of Oud Wood another try today. Good to see you. Get back to 100% soon!
My Favorites are Oak in Oak from Scents of wood, it does not perform on my skin but is beautiful, Marc Antoine Barrois B683, Agree on Black Afgano and Encre Noir. Hope you get better soon!!! Thanks for the video Ashley!!!
My favorite woody fragrance is CdG Hinoki. I LOVE the opening and mids of Encre Noir Extreme but the dry down is just so damn smoky and gothic. It changes my mood for the worse. The opposite of Neroli Portofino and Virgin Island Waters which makes me feel happy.

Hi Ashley! So happy to see you upload a video again! Hope you’re getting better soon! The only fragrance with guaiac wood that I’ve came across is only the Gaiac 10 by Le Labo. It’s gorgeous, but unfortunately too expensive and the projection is kind weak on me.. Is there any other guaiac perfume that you’ll recommend?
It’s a surprisingly rare note despite how good it smells. One very nice and affordable guaiacwood prominent fragrance is Dame perfumery’s Dark Horse. It has has a strong focus on vanilla and spice though so you have to like those as well. Hope that helps! :)
Good video Ashley. Love Oud Wood, but unfortunatley pulls a disappearing act on me after 1 hour or so. Have to try Wonderwood from this list. Can't wait for the summer list.!

Perfect way to build a wardrobe of perfumes cherry picked by category ! and as always respect your industry knowledge and preferences in scents. Have not tried Encre Noire a l extreme. I have original and for me its perfect when its cool and raining outside. Smells like a walk in the woods when its raining but you also smell like burned wood.
So you mentioned that these fragrances have the same notes, but smell notably different from one another. As a perfumer, can you please explain how that's possible? (:
Yes! The same note can be interpreted dozens of different ways in a fragrance (for example a pencil-like cedar vs. a fruity cedar), then add to that which note the perfumer wants to make the star of the fragrance and what notes will be mere accents and you have endless possibilities even with the same list of notes. PS : If you can find Vetiver Essence by Ferrari for a good price (discontinued), you must get your nose on it.. I feel it is Oud Wood done with Vetiver.. Not that high class as the Tom Ford, but I love the smell
