I don't trace but I do copy the drawing , and tweak it a little. I do use the basic wedges that I have learn in drawing class . I use the old school ways of figure drawing with this book .
I use it really for gestures without the tracing. I consider the tracing step for beginners. Its a good way to stay within proportions. Copying is fine, its just reference which everyone uses to a degree in comics. You can argue figure drawing is copying (and interpreting) what we see. At the end of the day, its whatever works for you.
This is pretty good to know about, the last time I drew anything, I was inspired by Metal Gear on NES (very long ago) the box art for original NES Metal Gear. Anyway, I used the character as my template. This book is like that, but WAYYY better ! I think I could even learn to draw a few basic poses from this book !! Thanks for posting this video !
