Unfortunately most of the really good masters have died out and have left little to show for it. The overall quality of traditional martial arts in Taiwan is pretty bad.

@@clacicle I am the "terrible" TMA apprentice who switched to BJJ and skeptical about the fighting skills of those "masters". Countless sifus have little experience in sparring, the best they can do is showing how they can take down a student who already ready to throw themselves to the ground. Purely pyramid scheme. These guys have 500% responsibility for destroying the industry.

@@clacicle unfortunately still better than mainland - in mainland kung fu is pretty much wushu performative art. To get actual kung fu you have to go to the deep ends.

@@jaserror In general most Kung Fu is very a wushuish. I’d still say that mainland has far more better examples of traditional, quality Chinese martial arts simply because of the huge population.

​Brother, as a former student whom allegiance is always to my teacher James Shyun, I tend to follow the philosophy of grandmaster Wei to openly teach the 8 step praying mantis to all and hope for his students to spread his 8 step praying mantis teachings. All of grandmaster Wei’s students like my master 荀廣龍, master 左顯富 and their classmates are the real 8 step praying mantis. Chief instructor 張君豪 continues the tradition of teaching the real 8 Step. His understanding of the essential forms 摘要段 and demonstrating/explaining to Will was excellent. Its very similar to how my teacher taught me. 😀 Unity builds a kung fu style, division destroys it.

Nice again. Have met him many, many years ago, when a friend studied with him. You were lucky, that they had closed down the red light lane next to the snake lane. It was a real experience in 1982, when I arrived there the first time.

In 8 step system, we don’t like to myth GM Wei or telling some “tales”. If you have read the book of the true stories of Wei, you’ll know he didn’t like these things too

Some of my senior 8 step brothers are described in Su's books to have extremely exaggerated skills, but when they saw the book, they laughed and said they didn't even know they were that powerful.

For example, one day a guy told to other people that Wei can jump to two floors because of "chi gong". When Wei heard that, he said "No i can't! If you can, you jump!"

That would be venom and venomous. An Australian friend scolded me endlessly, when I used poison/poisonous, lol!

Master Su had many "tales" about GM Wei But these tales include my teacher 左顯富 and many 8-step mantis elders who have never heard of it. They just laughed when they heard master Su said the "tales"...

Furthermore, Master Wei's teaching style does not emphasize the traditions of advanced, high-level, or secret martial arts. In fact, he even doesn't mind if passersby watch his teaching. You mentioned Su and Xun, but let me remind you that in the third generation of Eight Steps, which includes Senior Lin Junfu (Master Wei's first disciple in Taiwan recorded in history), Senior Wang Qiuxiong, and Senior Chen Guoqin, their martial arts training should have been earlier than Su and Xun. They have also never practiced the "advanced taolu" of eight elbows that you mentioned. As for Master Xu Ji, he only studied under GM Wei for less than a year before switching to other teacher. He hadn't even finished learning many of the moves and techniques of Eight Steps, so it is truly laughable to say that "Xu Ji never even practiced it." Many people from the third and fourth generations of Eight Steps know this history. Furthermore, even in the three books written by Master Wei during his lifetime, there is no mention of the 分身八肘 Taolu. If you want to say that it's a secret taolu not recorded in books, let me remind you again that Master Wei disliked the idea of keeping secrets and only teaching selected students. He believed that "anyone who wants to learn should be taught." As for why? Perhaps it is related to the discussion we are having.
