Actors like Liam in many ways are what make shows like this. It’s them that make the vibe and feel of the show as realistic as possible. Props off to you and every extra who make this show phenomenal.

My two favorite Michael Cain roles were those he played in "Zulu" (1964) and "A Bridge Too Far" (1977). So I can understand Liam being inspired by the work of this famous East London actor. The work done by Liam and all the UK actors on "Masters of the Air" is brilliant. Just getting the various American accents correctly is hard enough. Well done!

There should be a fraternity for Spielberg/Hanks WW2 extras/actors. It's a unique lot today.

A real treat Jared. Thank you Mr. Edwards, I appreciate that you took the time to help us understand your experience on MotA. I'm left wondering if COVID worries and uncertainties about the unknown contributed in a small way to the performances. Best of luck in your future career.

Great interview - that is a proper London accent by the way, Liam was struggling to avoid dropping too many 't's and 'h's for you, but compare and contrast with the Cockney guy who was showing off the Luger pistol in episode 1 of Band of Brothers and that accent was taken to an extreme. Had to lookup The Boys In The Boat (2023), which I haven't seen, and was amazed to see the University of Washington boathouse scenes were filmed at Cotswold Water Park - a familiar landmark when I used to live in Gloucestershire and must have driven past the main entrance a million times, but never visited the park itself. They are former gravel pits - actually Cotswold limestone, for which the area is famous as the source for construction in the yellow coloured Cotswold stone - and during my early life in the '60s and '70s were completely worked out and began naturally filling with water, so they turned them into a huge water park, with holiday homes, boating and wildlife conservation projects. Liam mentioned Duxford airfield - it is of course the Imperial War Museum's aircraft collection that's at Duxford (armoured vehicles and other exhibits are in the museum's main premises in London), and the airfield will also be familiar to people watching the Michael Caine film Battle of Britain (1969) as the main location used for filming. Also appreciated Liam being honest with you about the four RAF guys in the Masters of the Air pub scene (episode 1 or 2?) being "arseholes" - it's like a staple of American productions with British characters in it. For a more accurate portrayal of the RAF I would refer to Battle of Britain (1969), which was directed by James Bond director Guy Hamilton and the characters were played pretty straight without bigging ourselves up or putting ourselves down in any way, and it was made only 20 or so years after the war before the country (England) and the people had changed as drastically as it has in more recent years - although The Jackdaw Inn at Denton featured in the film is still there, remarkably. Liam also mentioned "the special relationship", which you hear a lot about in the UK in political debates, but in reality is more of a media creation. At the political government level there's often some mutual suspicion, although it depends on who the current occupants of the White House and 10 Downing Street are - Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher were quite close for example (invasion of Grenada aside), Joe Biden (who still won't tell us which part of Ireland he comes from) and the revolving door PMs we've had recently... not so much. At the military and intelligence level there's a good working relationship based on the Five Eyes intelligence sharing arrangement, also involving Canada, Australia and New Zealand. At the citizen level there's often family connections - in theory three quarters of my own family are American since three out of four brothers in the English Midlands emigrated to Illinois during the Industrial Revolution. I have crossed the Canada/US border on the Pacific coast and seen the Peace Arch on the border, which bears the inscription 'BRETHREN DWELLING TOGETHER IN UNITY' on the Canadian side and 'CHILDREN OF A COMMON MOTHER' on the US side, which I think is a good way of describing the relationships rather than "special relationship". I Can't help but feel that the Americans are still having a dig at the mother country even here, because the word "common" also has a slang meaning in British English that translates to "trailer trash" or "white trash" in American. Thanks guys!

Hi Jared! Really been enjoying your series of videos on MotA. Liam’s a friend of mine and I’m one of the Airline Pilots Liam alluded to in the video. I’d hazard a guess to say that I did the most job roles of anyone on the show; I was hired as a precision driver on Willys Jeeps, I was used as an extra, I was given the role of Assistant Group Navigation Officer and when I was wrapped I came back for the final month of production as Austin Butler’s body double. I can tell you that Liam was right, it was an amazing year. Keep up the good work.

I'd honestly love to see a flight training episode with Buck. Maybe Apple TV can make that episode after a little while and get a decent budget for it, it can release along with a special Blue-Ray collectors edition. It could be an hour long and show Buck's training and integration into the USAAF and really get a sense of how America itself was gearing up for the war, showing a bunch of homefront and stateside enlistment/rationing, and just the general feel of society in 1942, something almost never touched on in war films

We all should protest forced inclusion based current climate. I can see the conversation with Apple went something like this : This series was in production for a long time and no one would buy it. HBO lost their ass on the Pacific, and when Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks had to find someone to finance it and had it probably 3/4 of it completed they went to Apple, and Apple said you don’t have any Black people in this…. You need to find someway to include them or we’re not interested. It’s 2023 now and it’s required. So Hanks and Spielberg said what now…. Let’s add the red tails that’ll fix it. I can tell you really watch what you say and will probably disagree with me but you cannot deny it. The over correction currently happening is annoying.

I've so enjoyed your content over the years, Jared, but this was a unique perspective to be exposed to, and I deeply appreciate it... I teach history and write about history, though not at the university level... I've also sold (as yet unproduced) screenplays for historically based work... I appreciate your insights (and others) on the verisimilitude of cinematic takes on historical events because it's one thing to TELL students something, but so much more engaging to be able to SHOW them accurately produced content that interprets historical events... I'm rambling and gushing a bit, I realize, but sincerely thank you, and CONGRATULATIONS on your PhD, Dr Frederick!!🫡🤠🤠
