Andy, I think the most important aspect of this kit is the inclusion of the new nose section. Eduard has included something no other model maker has EVER done - a B-17F model with the field modified “cheek guns”. These were the two guns located in the nose that pointed more forward than the factory guns that pointed out each side of the nose. It became apparent that the German fighters were attacking the bomber formations from the front, so the airplanes were modified in England to have the two nose side guns point forward. So good on Eduard!
I built the earlier version of this kit, and despite what others have reported for me, it went together well. The only small problem was the fitting of the wings to the fuselage. It's a very tight fit. So. Test fit and sand .
I’m currently reading the book “Masters of the Air.” Andy is right, the 8th Air Force experienced horrific casualty rates. High altitude bombing was a new strategy. In addition to fighter attacks and flak, the extreme cold and faulty oxygen systems caused many injuries and death. The severe psychological trauma and stress was also disabling.
Georgelush1998. It has been some time since i've read any books about world war two bombers. If you like to Read. I really hope you can find this book. It is a very exciting book about a B24 Bomber group and they were making a bombing run in the book. The book was put together out of the logs of a Bomber pilot in that group. The information was found in the wreckage of the B24 after the war. I went to a military school. I remember doing a report on what I read. It was based in the pacific theater against the japanese. I went to the Military Academy in the late 1960a. So it has been sometime since i read the book. I am sorry but I cannot remember the name of the book, but I hope there is enough information from what I do remember. You can find the title of the book. The author of the book. He told the story through the eyes of the pilot and crew who lost his lifes. I hope if you do find the title to the book. Would you please tell me
They were incredibly courageous, but the daylight bombing tactic was stupid but the Americans wouldn’t listen and until Merlin equipped mustangs came on the scene it was a disaster. They repeated the we know better on D day and laughed at the “funnies” mine clearing tanks and the like.
"I got a Blow-Torch aimed at me and nobody's shoving me into it"... Surprising they didn't include Decals for 'The Leper Colony' hehe. Wicked looking kit!
I've not seen Masters Of The Air, but someone could do a diorama of a 109 about to collide with this kit, as the Bloody Hundredth was one of the groups attacked by the Sonderkommando Elbe on April 7th, 1945.
I've built a few 1/32 hk kits B25 ,mosquitoe ,and 335 arrow ,all went together for me with no problems, fit is excellent on those kits, just do lots of dry fitting ,I've built other kits that people have complained about and have had no problems, I've found no problems with Hk kits in 1/32 ,don't believe the hype ,give it ago ,mind you I've switched up some of the steps for painting purposes
Hi Andy, the B-17 looks to be a very excellent kit, will you be building at all? Sadly I have no room to sneak this kit home, best regards from Australia, Les
I recently finished the HK kit. It is problematic in some areas, so much so that, as much B17s, I would not make this kit again. Sure, it’s tempting with the Eduard goodies, but, no thanks.
So pretty much a repackaged B-17F kit with a few added extras is all it is. Still pretty cool kit but with what they are asking for it I am going to pass.
