Your specific points on this fig are right on. I’ve never named the issues with the finishing, and honestly, Mattel seems to have consistent issues with this as opposed to what I’ve seen from Hasbro. And you point out the arm articulation, which I’ve never named on a video, and it’s spot on. The fact that they can’t have straight arms is weird. I guess they’re just far too swoll, bruh. Overall, I feel like their design team keeps straddling the Child’s Toy vs Adult Collectible fence on the overall art direction, which ends up causing the issues with the sculpt, deco, AND engineering that personally make the line fall short of hitting its full potential for me. The wing connection, for example…it’s very simplistic and embraces the mechanism rather than trying to disguise it somehow. I get it, but when you have/had a two lines (Origins & CGI Netflix) that’re very, very children’s toy like, one would think that the way to differentiate Masterverse is to lean in to a more adult collector approach. Maybe design the joint in a way that leans more into aesthetics, and by extension, fix the elbows and clean up the plastic, to your point. They just need that extra attention, plus maybe a black wash and two paint hits for details. It’d drive up the price, but again, that’d differentiate the line from Origins. 🤷🏻‍♂️ That said, I still dig em. They’re my little slice of the MOTU IP living in a world of AWOK, Horsemen, etc.
