To be fair, some songs on Blood Mountain and Crack The Skye are pretty nasty on the guitar - Brent's weird Banjo background leads to some really weird riffs; (plus, they tune to drop frickin' A sometimes) - but yeah, the sheer number of drum fills in Mastodon songs seems unparalleled. Once a drummer finishes a song like this or Capillarian Crest they are inevitably going to be 20% more muscular than they were before.

@@marvintimke3978 .....well thats a matter of personal semantics, I suppose, but as someone thats 56 and has seen tons of metal, hard rock, thrash and hard rock bands, I think I know what metal is. Mastodon are more in the category that Queens of the Stone Age, where they are more commercial rock than anything but they don`t have the grit or balls to be hard rock(like Motorhead)

Get ya a old school stereo system with a huge adcom 2 channel amp split in to four channels with a nice old school Kenwood preamp and a couple 15 inch Polk audio subs stacked and bridged so you get the maximum input and hook it up to internal amp and a old school equalizer I use a 10 channel marantz and get you a Sony amp that is up to date to handle older and newer equipment that can be hooked into your home computer and buddy believe me you won't have to worry any channel sounding like shit in here. It will only cost you about 3 grand and you will have the ultimate concert sound fucking loud thumping home system.

I thought mastodon was just another metal band, nothing special, but godammit this song is a masterpiece, it starts in 4/4, then in the mini interlude it alternates between a measure of 5/4 and 2 measures of 3/4 then it changes back to 4/4... these guys are real musicians
