Here is a band that I like occasionally...I explain in the video. It is definitely worth watching the whole video if you haven't heard the song before!
The whole album is a masterwork. I wasn't a huge Mastodon's fan before (I really liked some songs but listening to a whole album had its highs and downs) but Hushed & Grim never cease to amaze me - and it's a very long album though. I even bought the double vinyl.
I agree. I've been a casual fan, and always like a few songs off of each of their albums but this album is a masterpiece. 15 tracks and there isn't a bad song among them.
This song especially was written for the bands manager who died from colon cancer. The entire album is a walk through of the stages of grief and death Brent and brann both put everything into this song and the result is bittersweet and a perfect closer to an amazing and beautiful album.
Thank you for doing my request Ryan, I had a grin on my face the whole time seeing it win you over! I am not like a lot of Mastodon fans, I much prefer Crack the Skye and beyond to the early stuff. Thanks again buddy, really enjoyed it. There's a really good cover of Again by AIC they did pretty recently too, I'm sure you would dig it. Band Maid and Mastodon both released "elemental" masterpieces within 2 days of each other: Corallium and Gigantium.
I love this song so much it brought me to look for reactions. There aren't many. There's one guy who dropped a few tears. I can say you were touched by the same feeling. That solo is so intense. Did you know this song is about Mastodon manager passing away? Man.. This song It just makes me feel like sharing that painful love
Brent and Bill are the guitarists, Brent is good with solos and Bill is a rhythm fella. Troy is the bassist and Brann is the drummer, they're the vocalists of this track, Troy being the deeper, more distorted voice and Brann taking the higher pitch. Brent does sing on this album, quite a bit now that I think about it, usually though he has one song per album that's really his and that one on this album is The Beast. Positively delicious, it has his southern twanging guitar and his more sludge oriented vocals, definitely one of my favourites of all their music.
Wow Ryan, I am glad you reacted to this. I have a similar story to you.. I love Mastadon, but I don't listen to them. It's just too much... or so I thought. This was nice to hear, I will check out more from this album. Reminds me of Opeth a bit, in the fact that they have some songs that are just way too much, and some which are so progressive, so beautiful I am torn. tl;dr --> Good job Ryan, this was great.
If you enjoyed this song and especially the solo their song “roots remain” is a must listen, amazing song with a phenomenal closing solo like this one.
I saw Mastodon almost ten years ago when they were touring in support of "The Hunter". Back then, many of their fans thought Mastodon went commercial. I thought it was a solid album. This song reminds me a little of "The Creature Lives", a track off of that album. Not that it sounds like it, but between the vocals, song pacing and atmosphere of the tracks, that's what I thought of. It is funny though, a lot of people are saying it reminds them of Stone Temple Pilots' "Still Remains". Not familiar with that track so I'll have to check it out. Regardless, I dug this track and your review.
To give you an idea, there are 3 singers Troy Sanders, Brann Dailor, And Brent Hinds. Troy is main bassist, Brann is drummer, and Brent is guitar, and don't forget Bill Kelliher! (Also guitarist)
Some cool stoner doom. I like mastodon but never got super deep into them, but did listen to their album Once More Round the Sun a a few times when that came out. Aaaaaany hoozlebeeee good reaction! Nice seeing ya pepper in some different stuff :).
Well, that was a wall of sound. Have you heard -or has any of your patreons/viewers proposed - looking into Wagakki Band? A fusion of japanese folk (with traditional instruments & shigin singing) and mainly rock, also pop/prog/metal/(x). Should you entertain the idea, here is a recommendation(s): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_uxpHq3inUA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aWlMc-pbDc8.html The first one is music video of the song Ignite (with cc/lyrics), with a heavier feel. This is from band's own site, so no copyright strikes. The older MVs under Avex label do get struck down. Second one is from live concert, instrumental Kyougasuigestu followed by the song Tsukini sakebuyoru (with cc/lyrics). That has, well, all kinds of feel.
@@RyanMear Found a couple anecdotes indicating Brent Hinds (Mastodon lead guitarist) actually has Creed parties where they apparently listen to "With arms wide open" on repeat. Melody sounds almost the same to me 🤷♂
@@RyanMear DEFTONES AND MASTODON "BRO-DOWN" OVER CREED In 2010, Alice in Chains, Deftones and Mastodon embarked on the Blackdiamondskye tour. The Deftones and Mastodon dudes were already buds, and the tour was a party from the start. Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor explained, "I mean the first night before the tour even started, half our band woke up in [Deftones keyboardist/turntablist] Frank [Delgado]'s hotel room on the floor in Chicago." "I mean we just got on like a house on fire. We were just like besties off the bat. Me, Frank and [Deftones drummer] Abe [Cunningham], after those guys got done with their set, we'd get some beers and some wine and go watch Alice in Chains … We were so excited to watch Alice in Chains every night, one of the best bands of all time." Reflecting further, Dailor said, "It was a definite bro-down kind of tour. It was really, really fun, and still to this day, one of my favorite tours that we ever did." And the fun they had backstage wasn't exactly how you'd imagine it. "Deftones [and] Chino tour with a fucking PA system backstage in their dressing room, hooked up to their boombox or whatever, and they blast music - so loud - you cannot hear yourself talk," Dailor continued. "So they would just be blasting Creed '[With] Arms Wide Open.' We'd all be back there singing along. So we just started having Creed parties. Unapologetically. Not ironically. ... I think we just played 'Arms Wide Open' over and over again."
