I love that mastadon isn't a frontman with a group of forgettable band mates. It seems that they are ALL frontmen. Also it is obvious that this music comes from ALL of the members, from the heart and soul. The emotion put into every note, riff, verse, fill is genius. They all seem to be laid back and down to earth. I dont get a sense of superiority coming from them.

I feel that Brent is what you get when you put all your character skill points in musicianship. I can´t relate to him at all and just don´t get him when he speaks, but when I hear and see him play or sing he just opens portals in to other dimensions and stuff just makes sense. It´s so abstract and ineffable - I love it.

This might be the best ”making of” music documentary ever made. It’s from the heart.

I feel like every Mastodon fan should watch this to get a better understanding of just what this record means to the band. God, I love this band man.

I'm a old dude, and a complete Randy Rhoads guitar head,and haven't really felt new music since the early 80's to 90's but Mastodon I've loved since they came out, they made me love music again, they are a incredible band, but they have progressed so much, it's a beautiful musical representation. I'm a 47 year old Black man from Houston Tx. ,and they are coming here in March, can't wait to see them for the first time. Congrats on the grammy guys you hella deserve it!!!!

As both a huge Mastodon fan and a cancer survivor myself, I love you all! What an inspiration this album is. It has depth and still rocks and really hits home for me since this was the year I was diagnosed and recovered from cancer. I got the pleasure to speak with you all in depth after your concert in Charleston, SC and you all are the real deal. You didn't have to talk to me, but each one of you came out and talked to me and we talked about cancer, and life and music and it still sticks with me just how much you all are sincere. Sincere in your music, sincere in your relationships with each other and your fans and sincerely great people. Thank you for all that you do as your music not only provides such a great escape but helps me and others dive into the creative and try to be bold in both music and life! This making of just drives home the passion that you all have for your craft. Keep it up. I love you guys!

Drugs did Brent once... they woke up in hospital a month later swearing they would never do it again.

This album came at the right time for me. I lost my Mom to cancer in November, 2016 and around the time this album came out, I was in a deep depression because of her death and other parts of life that spiraled out of control. Roots Remain has become my all time favorite song, such powerful lyrics and so much emotion. That song (and this whole album) really helped me start moving forward

I'd say Brent is one of the few unique guitarists there is in the modern world, I've never heard anyone sound anything quite like him.

Bill is so seriously down to earth. It really seemed like he changed when his mom passed. Mastodon is so freaking awesome

I am a 47 year old Hard Rock/metal fan and my 32 year co worker told me to watch this doc and I did, And now I am obsessed with this album and he is happy because I have a huge back catalog to enjoy. Tool took way more than 10,000 Days to keep me interested lol

Crazy I just found these guys. But, ecstatic that I did. Its like being a kid again hearing zeppelin, rush or Zappa for the first time and then going back through the entire catalog opening up presents on Christmas day. I love mastadon.

Casual fan before i watched this, now I totally love these guys.

These guys are in my age bracket (I'm 45) and their attitude towards their craft is so healthy. Yeah, I know, their vocals live aren't the best. I don't care, I'm such a fan.

No matter how many times I hear it, that last bit of 'Ancient Kingdoms' always gets me a little misty-eyed.

Brents playing is crazy. I didn't realize he plays his solos with chicken pickin. That's pretty cool.

Easily my favourite album of theirs. A culmination of all the great soundscapes that this band is capable of.

I watched this doc when they released it in parts, and having had some family members go through cancer, some surviving some passing, I felt some connection to this album. Then, a couple months ago I found out I have cancer, and the sentiment and the way they talk about cancer and how it drove this album has hit me even harder. Mastodon's music has gotten me through some rough times, and this album is going to be no different. I can't count the amount of times their music has given me chills; keep pumping out emotion evoking music, and keep evolving as a band! Love it!

Let's all take a moment to acknowledge that not only are they are a great band but they are great friends.

I am a two-time cancer survivor, so based on what your emotional connection to this album is, I appreciate how it touches me as well. You guys rock..hard....all the time. I too am a musician, and your music actually has repeatedly given me the motivation ( especially with Crack The Skye and Emperor) to keep playing rock and roll into my older years (I turn 55 this April), and I still hang with the yunguns on stage. Thank you for not compromising, and please, keep on Mastodoning. God Bless!

Now knowing the story behind this album, it means so much more to me. I lost my grandfather to cancer on December 6th, 2003. And this was uploaded so close to that date that it really hits close to home. My mother was also diagnosed with breast cancer a few years back. Thankfully after a mastectomy and intensive chemo, she's in remission and still cancer free. I may not have shared the same experiences the band has, but I somewhat understand the feelings associated. My grandfather's passing set loose mental illness sleeper cells that I had to confront a couple years back and even after all this time, I still don't know how to properly handle the situations that have bore their ugly faces. I'm just some random dude from the assend of nowhere Illinois. But please, if you guys are dealing with depression or any other mental illness, talk to someone. I was blind and arrogant to the fact I was having issues. Every album since Crack the Skye has always resonated with me. I don't know what I'd do if albums like those became no more.

It’s so refreshing to watch and see a band of this caliber and size be able to put their egos aside and work together to put out the best version of their music. You can really tell they all vibe and understand each other...other musicians should watch this and take note - respect all around.

This album to me is a culmination of the experimenting and inclusion of a wider field of influences, musically. It, to me, is a very musical and musically mature album, but I feel that there is more heaviness and aggression in this album than the previous albums, going back to Crack the Skye. This album also hits me very intensely, as someone who was diagnosed in June of last year. It has been very helpful to listen to these guys talk about their experiences, and listening to the music that resulted from them pouring the emotional, mental, and spiritual reaction to what is happening in their personal lives. I'm trying to put my emotions and frustrations, and all the other reactions (way too much to discuss here) into my own music. I write lyrics. play guitar and, obviously, bass. I just can't seem to get my software and hardware to play nice together. Also, trying to pour myself into building a musical instrument company (basses, guitars, components for both, as well as aftermarket components for existing drum kits), and building a charitable foundation to get music, musical instruments, and music education back in schools, and to help provide housing for families that are needing to travel to seek care and treatment for fighting cancer. I have time for this because my (ex)boss fired me when he found out I had been diagnosed. He figured I would be missing some time away from running his machine shop. So I have time, just not a lot of money. If you are fighting this disease, believe you will win! You can and will! Cancer feeds on glucose, so starve the cancer by keeping your blood sugar low. It's working well for me. Thank you Mastodon for the musical integrity, the honesty, and the heavy as fuck brutality in the music! \m/

I love how Brann thinks about music as if it's a "movie" in his head. I do the same thing. I hope they never stop killin' it.

I grew up in southern Calif during the 50s,60s. Hearing Mastodon has sparked my interest in music again. To me, they are a progressive fusion of rock, metal, classical, jazz all wrapped up in one incredible machine.

I have so much respect to Mastodon for having this kind of subject as their album theme. Their work ethic is no joke tho, they enjoy it so much being musicians.

What makes this band great is these guys love each other and the music they make together

So grateful for this, and for Mastodon as a whole - the human beings, the men, the friends who make this insanely worthwhile sonic art…poignant, layered, pummelling, nuanced, catchy, powerful and timeless :) Their life-ethos is also extremely kindred and positive...don’t bottle away fear, anger or pain...channel it into something beautiful and that tells a story for others :) I must have put on ‘The Making of Blood Mountain’, also about the same duration as this Behind The Scenes documentary ( EOS and BM have lots of shared DNA in my observations, from the central figure of the cover art to the Hero’s Journey concept), about 100 times now…sometimes as a refuge that takes me back to the simpler early 2000’s, though theres plenty of these modern times to love :) I already know I’ll be putting this Documentary on in the same way :) One thing that hasn’t changed with the Mastodudes is their authenticity and sincerity as people and artists, and that unto itself is something I’ve connected with deeply, but add to that the fact of their music being this so sweeping and multifaceted and interplaying-between-cerebral-and-mythical-and-heavy-as-all-fuck… What else can I say? Life-long favourite band, and among my favourite and most kindred human beings on this earth:) Would love to know what Brent thinks of The Shape Of Water (love letter to the Creature from the Black Lagoon), and what Bill thinks of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi (since theyre both such avid fans of those respectively) :) This is why I call them my ‘metal bro-uncles’, they take their art seriously, but not themselves, and they’re comfortable exploring other interest in music, film, books and more. Gotta stay eclectic to get the most out of life, I reckon :)

One of the hardest things to listen. I lost my dad a years prior to this album and when it was released i cried so so much and healed so so much. Such a masterpiece, such a healer, such a companion... so much beauty

Ive never watched documentaries for bands. Ive always loved music and been obsessed with bands, but never been the one to research much or get too obsessed with the members. I usually just appreciate the music. But I've met Mastodon twice now, and they are just so amazing and humble and wonderful humans to the point I now just cant get enough of watching their genuine amazing personalities.

I love documentaries like this. A very nice breakdown of the songs, closer look to what you could have missed, and you start appreciating the album even more!!

I’ve been a fan since the beginning and these guys just keep getting better like a fine wine. They have more creativity and diversity in a single song than most metal bands have in an entire album. Easily my favorite band. Phenomenal album.

I'm ashamed to say that I just got turned on to Mastodon, and after seeing this I'm hooked. A cancer survivor myself, this hits home in so many ways! True musicianship in every aspect! Every song I have heard just makes me like the band more, and writing about real shit!!!

Hands down my favorite Mastodon album! Every song just reaches out and grabs me. Absolutely love it. And the killer drums on Jaguar God, like gunshots. Every track is great.

That tambourine and egg shaker are so metal. i mean how many drummers actually know how to play a triangle? Trance metal!! love the sense of humor, freedom, and exploration.

I only started listening to Mastodon around 5 months ago because I stumbled upon this documentary and now Emperor of Sand is in my top 5 favourite albums of all time. And Mastodon is one of my favourite bands that I will always comeback to because the music speaks to me and has inspired me to write my own songs.

Ancient kingdom chorus gets me every time. My favourite album of all time, this group of people are really something special

Ever since getting this album and Once More 'Round The Sun, I haven't stopped listening to them. I just play them while I drive to and from school to make the 50 minute drive actually enjoyable.

My dad just recently died from Corona. For days, The Last Baron was a song I kept replaying again and again, the way I would an album from any other band I love. I've only discovered Mastodon within the last few weeks. I'm walking away from the hospital after being told my dad has 0% chance of recovery. He had a month of machines pumping his lungs and blood to keep him alive. Even the doctors didn't know if he was awake to experience all the pain that went with it.. I get to my car, and Jaguar God is playing, next on my playlist. I cried, hard. It felt like the song was digging the misery out of me. Now I'm watching this and I learn that the motivation behind this band's concepts was the death of loved ones.

I love how selfless these guys all are. There's nobody in the band trying to steal the spotlight or take all the credit. It's so refreshing.

This album carried me through a transformative period in my life. I can't love Mastodon any more that I already do, but I have so much respect for band members who have genuine love for what they do and vibe well together.

Why did this take me so long to get to? This was incredible. Got into Mastodon since Leviathan and haven't looked back since.

I have to say, in my opinion, you guys are one of the GREATEST bands of all time. There aren't many bands that can have every song on every album be a banger but you guys continue to do that.
