With recent eclectic sets at events like the Bugged Out! Weekender and his drum & bass material as MRZO and MRSA for Hospital Records supported by the likes of Camo & Crooked, Zo is fast asserting himself as unique electronic talent; something "The Bipolar EP" reinforces further by blending influences as varied as Daft Punk, Diplo, Deadmau5 and even classic US house and twisting them into bold big room sounds.
Surging the raw funk of Daft Punk at their punkiest against the deeply musical strains that Zo is renowned for, the lead track "Bipolar" lives up to its name by flitting between clicky grooves, electro synth stabs and subtle melodic waves in devastating dancefloor fashion.
A homage to Mat's love of classic dance across the 90s and early noughties, "It's Yours" is as inventive take on Jon Cutler & E-Man's funky house classic "It's Yours". Already a big room anthem from Mat's recent sets at Bugged Out! Weekender and TATW400 in Beirut, "It's Yours" builds waves of infectious melodic funk into a climatic drop.
A bridge between the carnival sounds of acts like Diplo and Major Lazer and the stadium filling trance world, "Ring On It" is an experimental bleep and bass-heavy explosion of carnival vibes - built around a subtle but undeniably epic riff.
Named after the world famous cellist, closing track "Yoyo Ma" is a driving melodic tech odyssey that draws influences from Eric Prydz's most epic Pryda work, big room techno and the classier end of trance.

Same, most teenagers these days want the 'drop' instantly; that kills the feeling you get from songs like these imo, its all about the build up in house/trance music, has been for the past 15 years! :) Nice to see trance moving away from the whole 'genre' cage and accepting talent like this from many genres!

What a TUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNEEE!!!! Ever since i first heard Lucky Strike by Mat, his sound has absolutely captivated me. Dynamic grooves that come alive, chunky vibrant leads, warm glowing pads and beautifull harmonious breakdowns. This music is what its all about.

Same here too! I've only met one friend that likes Trance. If only people would give it a chance, they would understand that it's more than just about the music. It takes you to a place that is much deeper than we ever knew possible. I love it. I even listen to it at work.

My Cousin is inviting me to see Mat ZO this Friday. I've never heard of him, so that's why I'm here. I do like trance music and I've seen some artist that rocked my world. Above and Beyond, Dash, SAnder, Sunnery James & MArciano, W&W to name a few. This style trance is awesome, but for me something was missing. I couldn't dance to it. It's either just jumping up and down or going into a trance. I LOVE DEEP HOUSE! That is something you can actually Dance too and still be in a Trance!

In truth you can do that with most of his songs. the main melody or drop always happens at about 2:15-2:40 for his songs, and then they take off into eargasms

i love how lots of his songs are like two songs. bipolar was awesome cause it had that cool house part and also that really chill part in the middle. this song is like that too. it has the first part then towards 2:30 it changes into a sick chill beat then at 4:00 the drop comes. sick song. good work matt zo

Good point. I think many people these days are so dependent on immediate gratification that the idea of a long buildup that anticipates a breakdown is quite a foreign concept to them. This track and pretty much every other track by this guy does this expertly, and if you ask me it makes the track so much more exciting. It's a real art to be able to build up and release energy in music as well as this guy does.

techno (technologically created music) is just a broad term used to describe any type of electronically made music, examples of techno are genres like: trance. hard style, hardcore, house, dub step, progressive trance... you get the point haha, hope that helps a bit!

I have liked every track of Mat Zo since his first release. I used to care about genres back in the day but then I didn't want to deprive myself of good sounding music just because it wasn't falling under a certain criteria.
