The only problem with this is that the way the island looks in the original is the accurate one, as it was now a destroyed wasteland thanks to the bohrok.
@@thunderspark1536 I'm sorry, but the 09 one just have no sense of weight, timing or size. The lighting isnt doing 09 any favours sure - theres no where near as much atmospheric haze or forshortening, but to say thats the only reason the first one appears so large and imposing is doing the 08 team a massive disservice.
ok so I forgot this scene in the movie existed and wanted to refresh my memory - but boy does it not hold a candle to the 08 version. And what's weirder is that there are people here as recently as several weeks ago saying they're as good as one another? I'm sorry, but 09 has no sense of the sheer scale, movement and power that 08 has on any level. Beyond the really weird choice of shiny texture and lighting that doesn't really appear anywhere else in the film, there is no weight present in any of the movement. In the 08 one, everything is heavy; continent sized slabs of stone crack and break under pistons that havnt moved in over 1000 years. the rocks that fall are falling thousands of feet a second, but the scale of the robot means that their decent into the water takes minutes. Every shot in 08 is oozing with appeal, angles chosen to specifically highlight its biblical size. From a distance, the robot can only be seen through a haze of atmospheric distortion - like a mountain looming in the far, far distance, a choice that, once again, really gives that sense of scale. All of this is missing in the 08 version. All of this could be replicated, even without the dramatic sunset lighting and refined textures; most of the issues are simply due to poor cinematography (choosing the blandest shots imaginable) and poor animation with very little understanding for any sense of timing or follow through. its just dosnt invoke the same level of awe as the 09 version. It just feels lazy, especially compared to the rest of the film, which looks so much better in comparison.
it's insane how many errors there are in the legend reborn's the island of mata nui still has life despite the fact the bohrok should've removed it all, the GSR being on some planet with land when it should be on aqua magna, aqua magna itself looking like some blue asteroid when it should be almost all water, and where the hell in the matoran universe were the av-matoran in that one shot?
@@NotKululu I might be wrong, but I believe under metru-nui is the spirit robot's cpu, in which av-matoran work to maintain it. At least thats what ive seen people say.
@@NotKululu I mean fair, my only logic was some stuff I heard alongside the fact that it looked like the red lightning was makuta infecting the core processor which was done under metru nui. I kinda just assumed the zoom was more of a general transition than relating to anything in particular.
say what you will about the legend reborn, but the shot of the light frlm mata nui's eyes suddenly activating from underneath the island is striking as hell.
the awakening of mata nui from 2008 feels more dimensional and heavy, and thus looks more believable and realistic, because mata nui is a robot of simply titanic proportions, and in the movie "the legend is reborn" these dimensions are not felt at all, because mata nui moves somehow too smoothly and fast for a robot the size of a moon, or even two, and yes, let the 2009 version realistically drain water, but let's be honest, it can't be compared with the wreckage literally climbing off a huge robot and falling into a huge ocean that doesn't even reach the shins yet mata nui, and ate as he steps over his feet, and besides, the version from 2009 feels less wide, and music from the 2008 version sounds more epic than from 2009.
Bionicle Team: Aqua Magna is an Ocean Planet: the entire Planet is an Ocean bear 1 Island. Threshold Animation Studios: I'll pretend I didn't hear that part.
They’re both good, but The Rise of Mata Nui is much more iconic. The Ghost version of the Matoran Universe Robot looked better but I do like the cleaner look of the The Legend Reborn version.
Mata Nui’s spirit trapped in the golden Mask of Life launched through space from his giant robotic body was actually compared to Superman (Kal-El) being launched from Krypton before it was destroyed.
Funny thing is that for some reason Aqua Magna is represented as a separate planet (looking like a blue asteroid, a moon of Bara Magna as seen at 3:18) and not as the one Mata Nui was laying on.
@@TheMightyPenrak This confused me for a bit. I had Bionicle as a kid but only really got into the lore of it the past few days, and Mata Nui explains he went back to Bara Magna before crashing into Aqua Magna, so why did this film imply that the mask crossed an entire galaxy to get there? I assume this movie is just incorrect.
Aqua Magna is supposed to be 100% water on the surface with the islands Mata Nui and Voya Nui being the only exceptions. And I think Voya Nui was sucked back into the robot and Mata Nui was supposed to be barren (like in the 08 animation)
08 feel like a colossal gaint awakened from a deep slumber and also the island of mata nui is now a barren wasteland after the bohrok clean all of the plantlife and the 09.... The island didnt change it stays the same and how mata nui rises feels like a human sized robot rising from a pool of water and also theres no rust its all too clean unlike the 08 you know its been in the ocean of aqua magna for a loooong time because of the rust you see
One mystery still remains: Did every single island in Aqua Magna collapse while Mata Nui ascending? If so, where did Toa go? I remember they went to Metru Nui, but if that collapsed too along with other islands...
Metru Nui and most of the others are inside of Mata-Nui (the robot) itself. Metru-Nui is essentially the brain of the robot. Voya Nui I think was (at least originally) somewhere within the stomach and Kardai Nui was literally the Heart. They all get destroyed though due to the final battle.
Nah the Toa mostly all joined up as a group under Toa Helryx (the first Toa and the leader of The Order of Mata-Nui that had been working behind the scenes ever since the early days of the robot being completed to maintain order throughout the Matoran universe). I believe the Dark Hunters also joined forces with the Toa and their other allies while the Skakdi (the species that the Piraka are a part of) worked alongside the Rahkshi for Makuta. Ahkmou became the Turaga of Metru Nui under Makuta's rule.
Yeah all the stuff inside the Mata-Nui Robot is pretty much only covered in the books after Makuta took over. Ahkmou never did become a Toa, he was just given the position of Turaga due to his loyalty to Makuta over the years. Makuta did tell him that he was destined to be a Toa and that Onewa took that from him when Makuta originally released him from his pod after he found it and brought him to the island Mata-Nui to get him to go against the other inhabitants of the island, but that was obviously a lie.
I am really disappointed that they don't make Bionicle movies anymore, and then they decided to cancelled and shutdown the Bionicle series between 2009-2010 for some reason.😔
Oh dang I can actually see it! That bit of orange. Bara Magna is a soft reboot of Bionicle, while the G2 reboot had the Vahi all over the place. I guess the Vahi is just the symbol of reboots.
Isn't matanui supposed to be on aqua magna before his reawakening?, Cause in the movie the kanohi ignika appears to travel a big distance ( galaxy distance speaking) , from matanui robot to spherus magna , and not like going from moon to planet as the lore may suggest at first
