This is a story of Matariki that takes us right back to the separation of Ranginui and Papatūānuku. Following the separation, Tāwhirimātea, the god of the winds, became so upset and angry that he tore his eyes out and threw them up into the sky to Ranginui as a sign of his love and pain.
