During a trip, Erik Anders Lang makes an impromptu visit to Park City, Utah, to play a match with Tony Finau. Finau hosts Erik at his home club, the Promontory Club, where they play the daunting Painted Valley Golf Course. Painted Valley Golf Course was designed and completed in 2007 by Jack Nicklaus. This links-style golf course measures an incredible 8,098 yards and has a course record of 68. While recording a podcast, EAL and Tony agree to match play terms that give Erik one shot per hole for the duration of the round. The fact that he walks over into the shit to help you with your decision on taking a drop or playing a shot back into the fairway says a lot about his character and respect towards you EAL! Tony is class

Tony Finau is one of my favorite players on tour. A complete beast when swinging those clubs. An absolute gentleman in every interview/discussion I've ever seen. Excellent video RGC team!

It's amazing where Tony comes from. Grew up hitting balls into a mattress in his garage in Rose Park, Utah (one of the poorer areas in UT). Definitely not a country club kid.

And he played rose Park golf course to hone his skills. A true shithole. He said on tv that his favorite golf course was the Jordan River par 3 course. That's the first golf course i ever played. Also a shithole, but a good time.

@@meech37 yeah, the last time I played there the front 9 didn't even have fairways. It was all 3 inch grass. They should push the finau connection and doll that place up

@@danielbloedorn7983 it's unfortunate too because the windstorm we had here in SLC earlier this year leveled all the trees. The fairways were dirt. The course is going to need a lot of work/money but idk if SLC will spend that money on a course is rose park. Theyd rather spend it on the busy ones.

Years back when Tony Finau had just come off the tv show The Big Break, I had the opportunity to meet him at a charity event where every group had the chance to try and out drive him on a par 4. He told us a great story on smoking a drive and another player ended up with tears in his eyes. He felt bad about the situation and decided to hit an iron against everyone else. We talked him into hitting his driver since we're big boys and it wouldn't hurt our feelings. He hit the ball so dang far! He's seemed like a great guy and even more now.

Love watching this video..Good to see Tony is still a very nice and accessible guy. Walked up with him back in 2007 on the Pro Am of the KLM open at Kennemer Golf & Country Club. Remember that he was hitting the balls 50-100 yards further then where the (ball) spotters were standing :)

Eric!! First off amazing video! I couldn’t even fathom how nerve racking and incredible the experience was to play with Finau. He seems like such a genuine guy. And secondly, 8:42-9:22 that was incredible. You played rather well. Absolutely a great video all around! I loved it.
