We just did a Bonus Episode if you want to see more of Pat's Matchstick Creations and a little more of his process: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SsnGltH-UrU.html
I've seen other cases where people who make/invent stuff usually find inspiration from their children! Seems like it's true when they say to keep being young in mind, you see things where most adults don't... God bless the children
G G yes I understand that but sometimes I feel hobby seems like a part time thing or taken less seriously by others . This is an art form , a serious one .
This is not zero sum. I'm a pro artist. I also do art as a hobby. I started doing art as as a kid. Often what is a hobby or starts as a hobby becomes something much, much more.
"i think ill probably draw my last breath and still be gluing matchsticks together" Got me thinking, maybe he should make his coffin out of matchsticks
My family is from there. My little cousin passed away from cancer and he made a semi small matchstick snomobile and donated it to our family. Very nice and generous man.
@misa smith people just say "rip (insert most recent celeb death)" just to be part of the crowd and basically beg for likes, it's not a new thing. The sad part is when people do that 80% of the time the person hasn't even seen or heard of any of the celebs work.
I've been to his museum, and I definitely recommend to add it to your bucket list if you are into seeing the more strange and rare things in the world. It's glorious to see his work and when you walk around you will have a hard time believing it to be a one man show.
I love how un-precious he is with his work. He talks about letting kids play with them, he's breaking stuff and picking things up, and nothing is sealed away. This is what a trust artist is. He's interested in sharing his love with anyone and everyone and not through 3 inches of glass.
It depends on the person. Would you risk someone possibly screwing up your work that you spent days, week, if not months on? Not every art is made to be played with or touched, they're meant to be admired. They're not 'precious' about their work, they just want to maintain the fruit of their labour and cherish it--and there isn't anything wrong with that. Sure, this man lets his kids play with it and whatnot--but that's why he made them in the first place. It's not that he isn't attached or so 'precious' as you say he is to his work, it's just part of the purpose why he makes them. Just cause one leaves their work in the open to be touched and the other puts it behind a thick glass doesn't mean either should be undermined. They both have the same end-goal of sharing their love to others, just different ways.
The crazy thing is, the factory starts with a sheet of wood and chops it into sticks, and he spends hundreds of hours gluing them back together piece by piece!
Doing puzzles calms the anxiety and stress. When he puts together matchsticks, it also calms you down. What he’s doing is good for your health. (This is all speculation, but easily assumed.)
Daughter: "Well matchsticks are wood and Pinocchio is made out of wood I don't understand." So dude figured out he could take a needle nose pliers, kind of crimp and shape each stick... Daughter: *EVIL LAUGH*
I found it interesting that the guy who runs this channel actually asked matchstick guy n he actually responds. He has never gotten any splinters from this
I smiled every time he talked about how much he loves people’s reactions to his creations. It’s great to make art for yourself but it’s gotta be a whole different level of validation when you put your heart and soul into something and people recognize that. Such a genuine person.
It’s funny I can’t find time to finish my trim in my house but this guy spends hours doing what he loves. I’m jealous. Awesome work and hats off to you
Big thanks to Patrick Acton from Matchstick Marvels for having us! Subscribe (and ring the little bell for notifications) for more Coolest Thing I've Ever Made Episodes coming up soon! Cheers - Guy
It's pretty insane, just the sheer amount of stuff he does as well. We usually feature just one thing on this channel, but he had I think over 100 that he had done over time. Thanks for watching! More eps coming up soon! Cheers- Guy
Lets be honest if you met him in the street and he told you he built stuff with matchsticks it would sound a bit perculiar but if he took you to his gallery that'd all be replaced with amazement. ⭐
What an incredible human being!!! Wow the skill, patience, endurance and great spirit. I salute you. Many people cannot even complete the simplest projects. 👏👏👏👏👍
I thought he dabbed a little dot of glue onto his fingers and slowly made the statue over the course of 40 years Overall 7.5 million "sticks" as in that's how many times he stuck little half dried glue dots on top of eachother ahaha
I thought the title meant someone made a sculpture out of glue slowly little by little over 40 years, which for some reason in my head I went, well that makes sense. Layer by layer of glue waiting for it to dry to add the next. Seems legit
This is the most generically sad but not sad hobby of all time. What an incredible man with and incredible talent. It’s overwhelmingly impressive. Well played sir.
Amazing work. His US capitol model is so amazing that I can easily imagine his model displayed in the visitor’s center of the actual US capitol. I hope he donate or will his pieces to big places like that.
I could see that Notre Dame sculptor sitting inside the real thing as a reference to “Before the fire of 2019” so people can look at it and then tour the new one. THAT would be amazing. Beautiful, meticulous, patient works of art. Thanks for the show, gents.
What a modest clever man! I can’t imagine how some of the making is done, so intricate. The models are so beautiful , I would live to see them one day. Good Wishes from New Zealand.
When you take all of his work in you can really tell he's a well studied man. From classical/renaissance style architecture with the Capital building, gothic architecture with the notre dam, trains, sailboats/ships to more modern ships like the USS Iowa, space shuttles. You could probably ask him "how does this work?" for any machine or vehicle in the world and he'd give a more than satisfactory answer.
This is my FAVORITE episode of all. The craftsmanship is breathtaking and mind-boggling. I'd have liked to hear him discuss the fire suppression system.
Heheee, 99 percent of the time I catch spelling errors, but speelliinngg is certainly not my forte. Being rude to others is not one of my talents, but it does seem to be yours, so carry on! lol
In my youth 1960s was definitely a hobby, particularly for young boys. Mostly you’d find food trays covered on top with dead matches. Matches were prevalent then because most men were smokers. My uncle built a replica of a shack where the family would holiday every year.
All these engineers/builders have such a great personality. Castle guy, boat guys , matchstick guy ALL give great tours/interviews. I LOVE THIER PASSION ! Truly inspirational. I am going to do something creative today :) Thanks to the chanel and the exceptional engineers.
Trai- I mean teach the children of the glorious country of North Korea to create matchstick statues of venerable Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Un by adding it to their curriculum.
Always warming to see someone love their craft so much, let alone be so good at it. Bravo. I live in Minnesota, if I ever go that way through Iowa in the future, I will definitely stop to see these masterpieces in person.
The passion, dedication, and the artistic talent is absolutely admirable.👌 I really can't comprehend the Dislikes. How can anyone dislike such a passion, unless the jealousy has obscured your judgement.. I subscribed. Love your work. 💜
This is a perfect metaphor for demonstrating what life is for. Each matchstick is as a single journey and even after several million of them., the navigator still carries on., acquiring more and more experience becoming that much more refined with every step taken.🤔
