AirCat's 1150 "Killer Torque" takes on Matco's MT2769. Both of these full size impact wrenches now have bigger brothers that have come out, but how do they stack up head to head? Do they bust the 1000FT-LB sound barrier on our digital torque test machine?
The Matco had a fresh tune-up kit before the video, we go through each used impact before testing but it would get repetitive if we show it each time. Let us know if you prefer to see it.
Regarding the Matco working vs max torque, the article I screen capped shows 850 working, but on the Matco website they often call it "Max Working" with no other spec than breakaway, so it must mean "Max".

To reiterate, these impact wrenches make these numbers compared to a US Ingersoll Rand 231H making 450, not compared to the process the manufacturer used to rate the impact wrenches because that's what we're calling into question to begin with. If IR underrated the original 231H, all impacts tested will suffer. It's sort of an exercise in "Assuming this this tool makes this, what does this one make?" which provides a level playing field that all impacts eventually tested can be compared on evenly. However what it doesn't do is spit out numbers that disprove any marketing claims, but best case scenario DOES show you what impact is more powerful than another which marketing ratings can't currently do.

Woah, I actually didn't know this gem of a channel existed! It's like a practical ASTM to impacts! You should do one for the 3/4 aircat/matco/IR next, my lateral link bolts need a worthy challenger haha

I had an Aircat impact wrench once, and I absolutely loved it! I had it out-torque some guy's Ingersoll Rand that I used to work with at a Chevy dealer lol. I accidentally over torqued a lug nut with it, the vehicle came back and he tried to use his gun to take it off and it sat there and struggled for a good 3 minutes trying to get it off. I used my Aircat and it zipped it off like it was nothing lol

I love this test as it's fair across the tools tested so we can get an accurate representation of what each tool makes! :)

Me too! I also love how he uses a left hand thread bolt/nut for the reverse torque, so he’s technically tightening in reverse. This is a much more controlled test, since Nut Busting / Breakaway torque figures can vary significantly based on the specific bolt, threads, and lubricant used. Different manufacturers can cheat a little since there is no standardization for testing Nut Busting torque.

I have the aircat. It's been a good gun but since i have bigger guns also, I'm less worried about max torque than some people might be.

Man i would be interested to see an hazet 9012tt on here, hazet claims 2200nm "nut busting". Would be cool to see how it stacks up against some of the more popular brands.

How about Cornwells 1/2 Impact gun? I think model number is IRC9000 something like that. I think its a re-badged IR. It looks almost identical to the Matco the same one in this video. I have both Cornwell and Matcos and cornwell always beats the Matco

I wonder what the fittings are and the diameter on the hose. While my hose and fitting are the basic diameters, i would be happy with this performance if this are the same fittings used here.

Are you sure you’ve got this set up correctly? Because I’ve put my personal Aircat 1150 on a Skidmore and pulled nearly 900 lb-ft for tightening torque and a little over 1,100 lb-ft for reverse torque. Not saying you’re wrong, just curious. I do enjoy your channel and I hope it takes off. Good luck and great job!

Unless the bolt is yielding (which a 1-14 grade 9 bolt should not be) then this should be representative, yes. I throw the 231H on each day I do these to make sure it makes 440-460ft-lbs and the new bolt is broken in correctly. This channel's purpose was never to recreate a Skidmore, not trying to and honestly don't find it that useful to know how much bolt tension psi it makes then converting with a static multiplier for torque. I'd rather know how much it makes compared to X, which in this case is compared to an IR231H or these two impacts compared to each other. If all torque ratings followed the same rules, the 1150 should be spot on 200% more powerful than a IR 231 if advertising 900. This test seems to indicate it may not be, and considering their size and shared overall design (rotors, blades, twin hammers), it would be quite the feat of physics to literally double the power. That's not the say the 1150 is not powerful, its beats the pants off the 231 - and I think everyone knows that. It just may be something like 1.35X as powerful and a Matco MT2769 may be 10% more powerful than that, which is what the goal of the channel is. Not to call manufacturers liars, because i don't think they are, they just don't all use the same method. Which is what we're trying to do.

AirCat also has a video here on YT where their 1250K makes 55,000 psi on a skidmore, and Matco has one where they make 54,000psi. Which would be 785ft-lbs and 771ft-lbs with the Skidmore /70 process. Which also don't match their box ratings despite if being their own test method. Again, not saying they are wrong - just maybe not otherwise comparable. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z1GL0wxV-Ao.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S3UOebgDbbo.html

@@AlexMaysonetNo problem, and I'm sure my test method is not without issues, but i welcome the discussion as the more we (tool community) talk about this stuff the less inclined tool manufacturers might be to allow their marketing department go buck wild with the numbers.

For future content, maybe do a single gun comparison if it had a whip, or muffler medie removed. Maybe different air fittings would be a neat one to see a graph on to. I'l looking at some Milton G style with a 1/2" hose for my 3/4 gun, but haven't bit the bullet yet and purchased. Also, just to add, neat channel, got a sub out of me! cheers

We'll definitely be doing a few of those things! We're trying to get a good foundation of popular impacts on here and data recorded, then we'll try changing a thing here or there to see what it does to their power.

At what PSI would you recommend using for the nitro 1150 air impact...?
@TorqueTestChannel
@TorqueTestChannel 3 года назад
I can't speak for reliability, but based on my testing you'll need around 130psi static line pressure in a 3/8" hose with hi-flo fittings to get the advertised power at 90PSI. However, this is one of the few impacts we've tested that make more and more power over time linearly without flattening out, so I'd say as much as you can feed it!

I've got both guns and the aircat always performs better!! You must be doing something funny with your air supply as the aircat in the video sounds slower running than the matco, whereas mine always sounds like the motor runs a tad faster! 🤔.
