Months ago I bought a really nice black felt Amish hat that I've been wanting to make a beaded band for. It's been in the box since I got it. I have zero experience at beading, but watching your very informative videos has finally given me the confidence to try my hand at it. Thank you for the inspiration.
You’ll love it! It requires a ton of patience but creating something so beautiful was worth it. Let me know if there’s anything you have questions on at all!
Hello! Unfortunately, I’m not very knowledgeable in the differences of thread weight. I’m more than happy to do some research and post a video if you’d like!
Also the word “thick” when the word wide is more appropriate, not to be critical at all, it just makes one come off as uneducated, I always appreciate when corrected about such things
Thank you! I’m glad it helps. These are just tips and tricks that I had to figure out myself and I hope it helps others skip a few steps! The duster/dress is from Triangle T Boutique out of Idaho but is made by Silverado Apparel.
great help thank you for this video ! do u have any tip about how to loom the full size needed hatband with a loom not big enough like yours/mine ? thks !!
Hello. You’re welcome! I have a couple other videos and one of them discusses how I use my shorter loom. In short: there are usually pegs on both ends of the loom that your string attaches to. Those usually twist, and I twist my band around it when I run out of room.
This is an excellent question I never thought of doing a video on! I will try and film a video for it because it varies and the way I determine this is kind of complex. But in average I would suggest purchasing at least 35 grams. This amount will make a band that is 15 rows or less thick perfectly fine! Most vendors sell quantities of 50 grams. Does this help a little
I have followed your recommendations for the beginner's loom. It came with 11/0 beads and some thin thread. You also link some cord which is 0.5mm thick. The 0.5mm cord does not fit in the 11/0 bead holes. Could you clarify these issues? What thickness of thread, cord you are using for your hat bands? Also could you show how you start your projects?
Hi Dennis! The mainstream beads that come with the beginner looms are often cheaply made and have thin entry holes. I don’t recommend using the thicker string that I linked on them for that reason. The thread I use fits perfectly through toho or myuki beads with at least three passes. If you visit my page, I should have a video on how to start but I can’t quite remember. If not, I do have a tiktok which I posted on a lot more!
It depends! My largest bands are 15 rows thick and I use no more than 50 grams. I can’t give an exact amount but 50 will be plenty enough for a 1” thick band.
