Mateus Asato - Live in Japan 2019 at Motion Blue (FULL 2nd set) 

Yes you do hear bits and pieces of those styles, and his technical wizardry is amazing, but none of the songs have that unique wow factor from a compositional point of view. It all becomes a blur of technical prowess. You listen to Jeff Beck's Wired and his live album with Jan Hammer and each song is unique and has a great hook. Also the same with John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra's Birds of Fire... not only great technical playing but amazing unique compositions. I enjoyed listing to this video, but none of the pieces are going to be going thru my head the next few days. Why... because none of them had a memorable great hook.

He is a graduate of Musicians Institute in California. He was an amazing player in Brazil, even before he came to America. Mateus is playing here with Yas Nomura (base), and Er Chow Kiat (drums). The three of them were at M.I. together. My understanding is that they are no longer together as a group. Mateus has moved on to many other situations, including playing with Tori Kelly and Bruno Mars. Er Chow Kiat has opened a drumming school called Drum Tutor in Singapore. I just saw a RU-vid video of Yas playing guitar in a Rennaisance Project performance with Dino Jelusic singing. Amazing. I’ve pieced this information together from what I’ve read online. I hope it’s accurate. Expecting the brightest futures for all of them.

I see people imitating Mateus' melodic lines. I never seen anyone improvise like Guthrie.

I like both. Technicaly I see Guthrie virtuosity is unbeatable. But sincerely I can stand hours listening to Asato with full joy but can't do the same to Guthrie. Also I think Asato came up with some sort of style that's new in the guitar world, it's ALL his, that semi clean groovy accurate beatiful playing (Just check his performance até NAMM 2020, that's brilliant). But yeah seing both play together would be amazing.
