This is so much easier if you accept the answer is simply a step-by-step reduction of the total by the power of 2. First, "a" is set to the maximum value = to or less than 148. That would be 2^7 = 128. Subtract 128 from 148 leaves 20. Second, set "b" to the maximum value = to or less than 20. That would be 2^4 = 16, that leaves 4. Then obviously "c" then is 2^2 = 4. Then you can take all the permutations of 2, 4, & 7 for "a", "b" & "c". It's very simple and quick to resolve this way.
