The moon orbits the earth in a circular path. Simultaneously the earth is also rotating around the sun. Again, the sun is also rotating around the galaxy. So what is the actual path followed by the moon? Although this video doesn't show the actual 'path' of the moon, it does show how different nested satellite systems can produce amazing patterns.

Note: This video doesn't depict the actual distances and speed of orbit of the sun, earth and moon. If the sun is considered as stationary, the moon should form a flower-like pattern with 12 loops, but in reality the distance of moon-earth compared to that of earth-sun is so small that these 'loops' can not form, rather if seen from above, it would look like a normal orbit with slight indentations.
All orbits were considered circular, so bye bye Ellipse!
For the physicists: One might argue that how can the radius of the satellite's orbit be greater than that of the planet itself. But this is where we mathematicians have the upper hand. We can simply imagine such a case and enjoy the pattern hehe :p
For those interested, I've rendered separate images of these 10 patterns, which you'll find in this link: drive.google.com/drive/folder...
These types of patterns can be called 'Spirographs' so Google it for more info.
