Math-U-See is an extremely hands on curriculum. The blocks help make concepts more concrete and allow students to “see” how numbers are being manipulated. You could probably use the curriculum without the blocks, but that component is what actually sets it apart from other math curricula. I would definitely recommend using the blocks for a struggling math student. They really help take the mystery out of math. I have seen used copies of MUS on EBay if you’d like to shave off a bit of the cost. Someone gifted me an earlier edition of one grade level after I’d already purchased the newer edition and upon comparison , very little had changed. So even an older copy would work well. I’d also recommend checking out their website- they have been running some awesome deals on packaged sets that really make them competitively priced with other brands. Since all math builds upon itself, it’s definitely a good area to invest in when it comes to a homeschooling budget. A firm foundation in mathematics will carry students far.
What would you recommend to purchase if you have two children at the same level? I have been using Saxon, but thought for fractions I would also try MUS as a supplement. I do already own the fraction overlay kit and block set. Thank you for the video!
