Title: Mathematics Beauty | Math Motivation
Description:
📽️ Explore the Beauty of Mathematics Through Cinema! 🎬
Dive into the captivating world of mathematics as we journey through iconic films like, "The Imitation Game," "Good Will Hunting," The Man Who Knew Infinity," "Hidden Figures," "A Beautiful Mind," and the first season of "Genius." Discover how these movies beautifully portray the role of mathematics in real-life stories, problem-solving, and innovation. 🧠✨
📚 Resources:
- "The Man Who Knew Infinity" featuring Dev Patel as the brilliant mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
[ Srinivasa Ramanujan FRS (Fellow of Royal Society) was an Indian mathematician (/Fellow of Royal Society). Though he had almost no formal training in pure mathematics, he made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions, including solutions to mathematical problems then considered unsolvable. ]
- "The Imitation Game" with Benedict Cumberbatch portraying the legendary Alan Turing
[Alan Turing OBE FRS was an English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher and theoretical biologist. Turing was highly influential in the development of theoretical computer science, providing a formalisation of the concepts of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, which can be considered a model of a general-purpose computer. He is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence ]
- "Good Will Hunting" starring Matt Damon as the self-taught mathematical genius Will Hunting.
- "Hidden Figures" showcasing the incredible achievements of three African-American mathematicians: Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, played by Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe, respectively.
- "A Beautiful Mind" delving into the life of John Nash, played by Russell Crowe.
[John Nash, was an American mathematician who made fundamental contributions to game theory, real algebraic geometry, differential geometry, and partial differential equations. Nash and fellow game theorists John Harsanyi and Reinhard Selten were awarded the 1994 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics. In 2015, he and Louis Nirenberg were awarded the Abel Prize for their contributions to the field of partial differential equations]
- The first season of "Genius," where Geoffrey Rush brilliantly portrays the enigmatic Albert Einstein.
[Albert Einstein was German-born theoretical physicist who is widely held to be one of the greatest and most influential scientists of all time. Best known for developing the theory of relativity.]

Absolute nonsense. I hold a PhD in pure mathematics and I’m robustly and militantly atheist and a methodological naturalist. In fact all my colleagues that I’ve encountered are all atheists/naturalists. Don’t pretend you speak on behalf of all mathematicians.

@@mathsurg You must suffer from a delusional disorder. Everything that I’ve ever encountered in my work has never once demonstrated the existence of any divine power. Religious belief or any belief in the supernatural is inherently counterintuitive to what science and mathematics is. I don’t blindly believe in childish myths like god and my work solidifies my view quite happily.

Probably computer code which mathematically decomposes wave signals into each wave contained in a complex wave. Example, this was used in the Cold War from seismometers sensors to detect if Russia was testing nukes. The vibrations (waves) could be decomposed into each frequency. Nukes have specific frequencies they give off. I imagine this is what they’re talking about.

Note: 3.14 is just an approximation of π. (π ≠ 3.14) π is an irrational number and hence its decimal expansion does not terminate, nor end with a repeating sequence.

I'm really sorry to hear about the difficulties you're facing. Please remember that struggling with studies is a common challenge, and you're not alone in this. It's important to take small steps and not let negative thoughts overwhelm you. Seek help from your teachers, friends, or family members. Consider revisiting the concepts from previous classes gradually, and don't hesitate to ask for guidance whenever you encounter difficulties. Remember, it's never too late to strengthen your basics. Your well-being is essential, so please don't lose hope. You're capable of overcoming this, and there are people who care about you. If you're feeling overwhelmed, consider speaking to a trusted adult or seeking professional help. Your life is valuable, and there are solutions to these challenges.
