He didn't come out of the blocks well on either race. I was really surprised. I don't know if he was looking to get a qualifying time for the U.S. trials. I thought he would compete in the 400m.

@@joecasey7415 it looks to me like Boling led to about 175, but he was definitely in second by 200M. Staggers can be extremely confusing, and I’m telling you, me running 300 and 400M hurdles on different tracks (some are very wide and round, some are a perfect oval, etc.) use to confuse the heck out of me when trying to gauge where I was at times, as well! For me, I guess I’m so use to seeing, I can tell the difference. Matt got out extremely well, and I think that’s when Smith began to dig a little deeper at about 180 to get back on pace. To be honest, in the 400M, most take it very easy until about the 200M line, which is when they begin to raise their arm carriage, and start putting down more speed…notice 400M runners on the backstretch have low arm carriage at that point. It was a great race, though, and I’m happy to see how well Boling is doing in the 400M. Boling ran an amazing first leg at world relays, also!

It turns out it is the same Boling we have seen for the past several seasons not living up to the hype he used to have for every race. Does anyone know if there is an issue with Boling getting a good coach? He has changed coaches over the past couple of years, but he has never learned how to actually sprint at the top level of the sport.

He may have gone out too fast but I'm not sure he could have run much better even if he was more balanced in the 200m splits. Sub 45 is a good sign. You're not serious until you can do that.
