Mathew Ryan is een jonge, Australische keeper met goede reflexen en een zeer precieze traptechniek. Ondanks zijn jonge leeftijd, kan hij buigen op drie jaar ervaring bij een eersteklasser, wat hem de nodige rust en uitstraling in doel geeft bij Club Brugge.
Mathew Ryan werd geboren op 8 april 1992 in Plumpton. Hij startte zijn carrière bij Plumpton/Oakhurst SC vooraleer de stap te zetten naar de jeugdreeksen van Blacktown City. In 2010 maakte hij de overstap naar de Australische topclub Central Coast Mariners waar hij 3 jaar titularis was én tot twee maal toe als beste doelman in Australië werd verkozen. Ryan werd al tweemaal geselecteerd voor de Australische nationale ploeg waar hij aanzien wordt als een potentiële toekomstige nummer 1. Leuk detail: Ryan speelde met de Olympische ploeg van Australië onder leiding van ex-Clubspeler Paul Okon die niets dan lovende kritieken voor de doelman heeft.

Love watching this kid work. He has an "I WILL NOT be beaten attitude that defenders love, and if we do play on the break there is not better player to make that happen. He WILL set up goals in Brazil and AFC Cup.

By the time Ryan is in his late 20's he will be the best in the world, we have seen him developing here in Australia since he was 15 and he just keeps getting better and better. His distribution from the back can win you games its that good not to mention the games he wins with the saves. Watch the high lights of the Asian cup saves he did, one of them is one of the best saves you will ever see.

good video - as an aussie i was skeptical about Mattys future in goals due to his height till someone pointed out Casillas was the same height. Getting beat from distance, chipped (ala Troisi) etc is a worry as Ange likes to use him as a sweeper too. Though having a keeper so good with his feet, head etc at the back is a great tool as he can break up attacks before they result in a strike on goal,, plus he's solid with close low strikes which often undo the taller keepers. yet to see him perform in a penalty shootout but his form has proven me wrong and he's definitely the man the tend the goalposts for the socceroos. With youth on his side he will only get better.. best of luck in the asian cup matty

What a great goal keeper, he should deffo be in the goal for Austraya during the World Cup !! Ryan has become the new number one goalie in Belgium and has a great future ahead of him, we love him here in Bruges :)

He is, but he missed an easy save against Netherlands that ended Australia's World Cup Campaign, If only he savd that shot.

That post was 6 months ago :). I saw the game against Holland and he should indeed have saved that ball. That is a downside to putting young talented players on the field, they make mistakes .. Still i believe the path Australia has chosen is the right one, Matt will learn from this mistake and knowing him he will also have been devastated. But in the future it will make him and Australia stronger for sure.

I have seen this video and that of Neto, both look class acts and LFC should act quickly to get either of these keepers and not start waiting for the summer when the big guns will come in and start pursuing them. If we can't get Neto now, at least sign a pre-contract with him then he comes in for free in the summer.

To be fully honest as an lfc fan and as an aussie, i hope he doesnt move to england, if he moves to lfc he is at the top already, where as if he stays in belgium until the next world cup then i think he would be at the right age. We dont want another brad jones or langerak. Lack of game time has somewhat killed langeraks full potential, and this would be another waste of brilliant ability if he moves on!

If this young fella is even half-way decent he should have no problem in pushing Mignolet out. Brendan Rodgers has made his decision on Mignolet and the only reason he's back in the squad is because Jones is injured. Mignolet doesn't communicate well with his defenders and has a phobia about catching the ball. He's a poor keeper and one of the biggest weaknesses in our defence is set pieces, this also happens to be Mignolets biggest weakness which adds up to trouble. I cringe everytime there's a corner or free kick around our box.

Idk not much of an upgrade to mignolet IMO LFC should really go after ter stegen or neto or begovic

Mignolet has never looked good with his feet, not even at Sunderland. Ryan's distribution is probably up there with the best in the world. Begovic rejected liverpool and has been poor recently. Ryan is by far better than Neto, Neto is overrated because he is Brazilian and plays in Serie A.

Good keeper, but still I'm not sure if not Langerak should be AUS No 1, he has more experience against better opponents and one of the best goalkeepers in the world is training with him every day of a season, but in the end he has not the same match practice I think.
