Even in context, not really. I understand that he is referring to "you reap what you sow" which is the metaphor you're talking about, but reaping and sowing are two different things. Sowing and planting a seed are the same. So what he is actually saying is "you never know where you might go, but the seed that you plant is the seed that you plant"
The mensch is a pretty deep guy. I know this is going out on a limb since you obviously are the master of philosophy and hidden meaning, but maybe, just maybe, you didn't actually understand what his intention behind the line was?
I think he meant by reminder is that the plant you plant is your plant, don't plant a seed then be annoyed you got a wattle tree when you wanted a rose bush. Don't expect things in life that you didn't start.
I love this song, but when he says "every seed that you plant is a seed that you sow", I'm just like duh, that's what sow means- planting a seed. Not your most philosophical of lines there bud.

You have to listen to it in context.. he says "you never know where you might go, but the seed that you plant is the seed that you sow." which is probably a metaphor for controlling the aspects of life that you are able to. so actually it is pretty philosphical.
