Hi there, we have been to Skopje recently. We have heard already about Matka Canyon from friends and some travel bloggers before.
So, here we are.. :) in the middle of the beautiful nature, Mother Nature.
There is trekking route you may follow.. take a boat tour on the lake.. or rent a kayak..
Matka is a canyon located west of Skopje, Macedonia.
Matka is one of the most popular outdoor destinations in Macedonia and is home to several medieval monasteries.
The Matka Lake within the Matka Canyon is the oldest artificial lake in the country.

Matka was build in 1935 period when was Kingdom of Yugoslavia ( Serbs, Croats, Macedonians). The famous dr architect Miladin Pecinar from Serbia, was the designer of the project of construction of Hydro Power plant of Sveti Andreja as name of first energetic facility in Skopje. Matka is famous for medivel orthodox churches : Sv Nikola, Sv Andrea, Matka monastirot, Sv.Nedela, Sv.Spas, Sv. Jovan Zlatousti and 10 caves most famous called Ubava, Vrelo and Krstana( absolute macedonian names). It was bombed during withdrawal of Fascists. The Matka several times saved city of Skopje from floods, especially in 1969 and 1972. Matka Canyon is home to wide variety of plants and animals. Famous for 77 species of butterfly also ducklings swiming in the water, wild boars itd.

Nice video. Gives me a good idea of what to expect when I visit. I can't believe that a travel/tourist video for everyone in the world to enjoy has attracted negative (and ridiculous) comments from paranoid, arrogant and egotistical nationalists without a life, who cannot appreciate the beauty of the world and want to claim everything as their own. No land belongs to anyone. We belong to the land. Thank you Alaturka Info for sharing.

Sofus - Yes, they get off on it. Racism is such an ugly human trait and so very, very pointless. Unfortunately, some of The Republic of Macedonia's neighbours are triggered by the M word and spew their hatred everywhere. Very sad. Live and let live.
