Regarding the DIY part, do you know @Gabster1 channel? He does a lot of IAN's Canada build but he also makes his own. Check his Streamer along with his "world's second best dac" He's also quite focused on power supply and ultra capacitors. I wish I had the skills and time ... Glad to see the Matrix seems to fit your needs, it really seems a missed opportunity the lack of digital outputs, but is it to differentiate their models (mini vs non mini)? I also wish they had a model without balanced outputs since my old receiver won't take it, no need for me to pay for a feature I can't use. I noticed a trend in those companies putting XLR everywhere like it's a sale argument it seems.
