These are just absoutle gold, when we have arguably the best commercial fisherman in the country and he's getting lessons learnt and eye openers how can we not learn from this. Also kudos to Jamie as he's no ego at all some top guys might not want to be seen as a fool. Jamie just loves it and learns..... Hats off to the Hughes'

Great video again, yes distance over water is shocking also the bread. I’d live to see a video on feed in rivers to see how far it actually travels depending on the bait and then additives to ground bait to make it sink and when fish feed over ground bait or bait via a dropper does that then move down stream, maybe mark pollard at the embankment in Bedford

That has just destroyed my bomb fishing, in open water I think I will have to rely on a method feeder and only use the bomb if I am fishing to a feature, for catapulting bait with any kind of accuracy. If Jamie struggled to get it right, then I have not got a chance. Tremendous video, thanks so much for opening my eyes to how far away we can be fishing from our freebies. Mind seriously BLOWN.

This series is getting more interesting with each episode. Regarding the spread of pellets, I thing there are several contributing factors. Please allow me;- The way the pellets are loaded in the pouch can be the first thing to be considered, although I can't see that having too much impact on how they land. For achieving accurate launching, we would have to look at how army chopper launch multiple missiles. They are all facing the exact same way, and are the exact distance from the exit point. We can't get that with a humble 'pult. The next thing is how the pellets actually move in flight. This is complete chaos, they twist and turn all over the place and only heading roughly in the same direction. That's because although the appear the same as each other, when we look closer, there are enough differences to affect the aerodynamic properties rendering each one different from the last in the air. Another factor is how the pellets make first contact with the water, they wall be spinning at differing rates of spin, and at varying angles, thus affect their individual trajectory before they even begin to sink. And the final factor is as the pellets wouldn't fly true because the little nuances that make them all different, will also affect the way they fall through the layers . Am I making sense? That brings mw to my next point. Would it by an idea to try "tea bags" to assist with better grouping? I was thinking that a PVA mesh may well melt whilst still falling through 8 or more feet of depth, there by giving a small spread on the deck, and of cousre, the hook bait just a few inches away. (Depending on hook length). Just an idea or two, I'm not trying to preach science, only throwing a bit of logic in the mix.
@robertwren8878
@robertwren8878 3 года назад
Never understood why the pult is shaped like a blunderbus that wasn't accurate either,they made fun of the launcher that Bob nudd used to endorse but it was accurate every time because of the shape of the vessel! The elastic just propelled it,not coned shaped with holes.

Cogs are turning. Catapulting bait is essential to attract fish, with noise and bait falling through water. But the wide spread isn’t concentrating enough to get the best of our pegs. Maybe, a floating feeder/ mini spod will be a new match aid to concentrate the feed. Literally, acting like a pole pot.

Great stuff , as an ex infantry (para) - I've always thought of loose feed by hand or catapult as an "area weapon" as the feed is gonna disperse , as one gent mentioned below , sticking pellets and also sweetcorn together could be one idea to improve grouping , there might be some mileage in looking at pouch design for 'pults , PVA bags and mesh may not be practical for match anglers ???? - casting accuracy awesome - that's why those top boys are at the top !.

So from now on...no more long hook links (thank god) , anything over 12" just hinders quick bite detection and lowers the chance of hooking up. Use an in-line bolt rig if you can get away with it. Add a small PVA bag of pellets to the hook and spray a small pouch of pellets over the top to 'ring the dinner bell' before you chuck. Use a stand out hook bait....either a red pellet or a larger bait or both. Maybe add a bit of extra attraction like some 'Goo'. Stick to using 6mm pellets when catapulting over the top so that get to the bottom fast if the range and conditions will let you.....leaving your stand-out hookbait with more 'hang time' in the bite zone. Put this all together and you should have more bait in a smaller area....and your hook pellet maybe the first thing they grab. Definately giving this a try. Oh and start on the bomb first and then try the pellet waggler second rather than the other way round. Its kind of ironic...if I think about the way I fish for big Carp..then doing all these things is a lot like accurately spodding and putting a high attraction boiliie hook bait right in the middle of that baited area. If you could fish this way it could probably work in a similar manner to fishing the method or hybrid feeder. Adding a PVA bag gives a concentrated mouthful of bait in a small area. Each bag you put in area adds more attraction. You could use a pellet-like wafter as a hook bait too. Critically balanced hookbaits are always good for me on the method.

Great video. Always seemed batshit crazy how everyone says "a lead sinks at roughly a foot per second". And literally everyone used to say this. Its absurd how unscientific or thoughtless so many anglers approach is. It's why someone a bit smarter and more thoughtful than average like Jamie is able to dominate. But how is it that he has never dropped his bread rig in the margins to see if it is popped up or not! There are so many things in angling that are are so obviously wrong but theyve just been repeated so many times that everyone accepts them as facts.
