I had known about them for a while but I caught a livestream of a concert in 2017 or so and my mind was blown. That’s when a minor obsession began. I was in my late 30s. It’s never too late ❤️

Matt Bellamy is the greatest musician the UK has produced in the past 30/40 years

I believe Matt is brilliant, but the greatest British act over the last thirty years must go to Right said Fred or maybe Timmy Mallet. Who doesn't love "Too sexy" or "Itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bakini"?
@pite9
@pite9 2 года назад
@@s4mcote You could definately argue that Radiohead is better than Muse, but Thom Yorke doesn't write all their music. Matt does. I think Chris has contributed a few really good basslines, but everything else is Matt. As an overall musician, Matt is miles ahead of Thom. Matt Bellamy may in fact be the most skilled musician we have ever seen. He's exceptionally good with 2 major instruments and an elite singer. His multitasking is also top notch. He can sing very freely on both instruments. Prince is the only one I can think of who is in the same category as Matt.
@s4mcote

@@pite9 Hard to argue, I’m a huge fan of both Matt and Thom. I much, much prefer Radiohead’s music, though!
@oscarpuertas0

@@pite9 as a creative mind, Thom is superior, as a technical musician, Matt is superior. I prefer Thom because i think his music is better than Matt's, but Matt is amazing as well. Love both.

This video made me realize I can actually sing more like Matt than I can a lot of other singers. Now granted, I'm roughly 1/100th as good as him. But I think he'd make a good model for me. I wasn't sure how he was doing what he was doing until I listened to you break it down. So thanks for that.

On another note, I never realized how cool those backing vocals in the "our hopes and revelations" part are. And I've listened to this song maybe 100 times.

This makes me think of another UK singer who is immensely unique - Jon Higgs of the band Everything Everything - really bright falsetto with very fast lyrical phrases constantly jumping around the octaves - check out No Reptiles by them - it’s incredibly unique and under appreciated

These are such great videos! I learn so much with each one. Thank you! I would definitely be interested in seeing an isolated vocal analysis of Devin Townsend as I imagine there would be a lot to talk about with his technique (clean to compressed to fry) and production (LOTS of layering and production). Thanks again!

I'm still waiting for Tim McIlrath. He's always been one of my fav's, seen Rise Against 3 or 4 times, always loved them and Tim's vocals, but he has SO much power behind every word, it seems impossible to carry that energy through an entire song, love to see a break down of his approach. Love your videos as always my man.

One of my favourite vocalists singing songs by another of my favourite vocalists. 😀 After having zero clue as to what production techniques are being used on vocals I'm almost able to guess which effects are on, I can't hear how much or the eq filters yet but I'm so happy I've been ear training and learning stuff without realising. 🙂

Would you be interested in making a video that plays a lot of different people all making the same middle C or E or something, one after another separately, so we can focus on hearing the timbre and vocal tone over the intended sound. It would help a lot in recognizing some of those finer qualities in learning to make better sounds that would be illustrated in such an example, basically so we can learn to tune our voice~

Hey Chris, great video once again! Awesome that you point out stuff from voice placement to phrasing to studio production - namely, the whole deal! Very helpful and ear-opening! I might have suggested this already, but how about you do a similar video on Bruce Dickinson's isolated vocal track on "Wasted Years"? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V2wq1I-G66U.html It would be very interesting to hear your take on the vocal technique (obviously!) BUT also on the production as this was recorded back in 1986, and how you would approach that sort of a 80s' heavy metal vocal production, which is not over the top like in some other 80s' songs.
