Wtfare you talking about? I'll be more copacetic. You make selling out sound like it was so common that it dominated the numbers and trance went away. Not sure how old you are but agreeing that trance and the entire scene was WAY better say early 90s and i just personally go from around 94 thru-2005 and what i mean by that primarily was the period when a large number of big festivals, and nite clubs too which are super important to scene, were peaked. Today, well you cant have trance/rap bars and clubs, terrible business model w two different mindset crowds and behavior generally speaking, A college rap club will have things happen that a Electro crowd rareley does, i have 12 years if bar time to make that testimonial accurate from my eyes. But cities all over the US had more spots back then to even see traveling DJs before alot of it simply condensed to Vegas, San Fran. NYC, LA, Philly, got the big time guys. In 98-2005 you could go to some incredible spots in other cities, Phoenix, KC, DC, and personally seeing many in Dallas, (Eden 2000, Milkbar) I worked at Element in Austin and we had top flight DJ's in all the time, Richie Hawtin DJ Dan, Moby, Danny Howell, Dave Seaman.Not even sure of lineup but our NYE 2000 party and DJ set,s was a show that ranks amongst the best i have been to and I've attended many of the biggest tours and a shit ton of clubs, We were 16K Sq Ft and two floors in a beautiful downtown bldg that got the upscale crowds ready to spend money, and dress codes kept the kiddie crews with blanket pants and pacifiers out, and it worked for a few years but then came Vegas courting DJs and San Fran already doing that with East Coast pressure the number of quality DJs that really could do shows was drying to point you had 22yr old kids making trance ATTEMPTS but not understanding a show set design. We had DJ Micro at SKYE in Austin and i sat in the booth with him the majority of his 4 hrs of killing it with Tech Trance, Electro, and some sick deep banging Progressive Trance i just recall thinking yet again this is a DJ that knew exactly how to read a crowd and time of set to lay it out cuz in those days you could really just blow the skin off people with the way the scene was, most will understand what i mean by that. But there wasn't this need to play sweet chimey sounds and see how many neat buttons could be pushed for an effect, he had the music to be the number one feeling and then a mastery of some wah, rushes, drum riff and such that only added to the thickness of sound. I had a close DJ friend make it big with Oakenfold and he left Austin for SF, but thats not selling out, its a better job, pay, and exposure opps, that's life buddy. i don't think anyone can say Darey sold out, or Micro, Danny Howells, Dave Seaman, Hernan Catteneo, Kaskade, SolarStone, Ferry Corsten got more involved in various projects, Frankie Bones, Eric Morillo Chicane chages alot but its still not sell our for radio, Danny Tenaglia, dude i can go on and on and this list is NYC heavy, there are others for sure that didn't sell out, maybe just got good at selling music for first time like Moby, who is an asshole by many people's standards but he's a fucking real musician, so good on him for making music for video games and getting paid. What do you do? i mean so well enough to get hundreds, no thousands, fuck that,hundreds of thousands of people a yr to buy something from you? If you don't have that item or talent but i said man there is a need right now to have people put incorrect assessments of DJ's out there cause people really love to take other people down, we can pay you $250,000 yr, what do you make now 40k? well what's it gonna be? LOL your answer would come out so fast you would need a change of underwear. Sell out is such an easy moniker for untalented people to say what they think they would do, with absolutely nothing to draw that conclusion from in their own life. Maybe a more accurate assessment is that today's DJ's have gotten popular because the younger generation likes flash, production, rating things on their phones means artists have to create the buzz to draw views and likes, and some of it just simply different crowds today then say 99 with choc chips and Buda's everywhere, your show was going to be fanfuckingtastic and is nothing like that girl Molly. shes young, immature no telling how her attitude might be night to night, many nights shes fake, and very short winded. A Buda session was a full night maybe. Choc Chips, i mean, no words to do that justice but likely responsible for many of you17 -20 yrs olds here now. ( you were planned though :-) at least in the effort one of your parents made to get the chips at least ) Gt lucky enough to see a show with any of the above DJ's and your experience was going to be epic most of the time. That's then, this is now. If trance and Prog Trance fans want that back, Buy trance from a DJ like Eco 's (NYC based Marco Pacheco) or Sig Van Rhiel, or Prydz, Ottavani, Aly & Fila,, demand whar you want to hear by purchase and the tide will shift. But for now we have Guetta with any pop star that schedule will allow and we have an music generation that appreciates a Bieber, soft almost woman like boys that can sing pretty to girls even if that isn;t what their preferences are.*just a guess) And we have plenty of rap, lots of winning and boat life with about the same substance or talent as the man running the show for country currently, now there is a guy that has sold out for his life work. Cash over purpose, but cash is great and i find an artist making their way in the difficult ways many do for years to finally go and get their payday, i just wish it could be due to their original music styles being what is popular.

This stuff was the commercial stuff of the time and yes Darey did trance before the late 90s, but he definitely commercialised his sound. Good stuff though.

Yeah they're the tunes that got me hooked on Trance back in the 90s! While I'm not a massive fan of vocal Trance, Matt Darey churned out some great tracks and remixes. This set is a must for all Trance lovers!
