If he can find one, he might find a GR Corolla more suitable, since it's more balanced to the daily driver/practical side--also, given his previous affinity for hot hatches.

Agreed. It would be a good replacement to his Fiesta and he wouldn't need a Twin car either.

GR86's NA engine and comfortable cockpit is a better daily...Unless utility is needed, than 4 doors and hatchback is huge bonus. Hyper turbo is not going to make for a better daily then an NA engine.

@@psewgobind In a previous video, ZCT #28 (around the 7 minute mark), Matt specifically said that the GR86 was on the low end for him in terms of space for a daily driver and that the seats were too tight for him. In the next breath, he said for those reasons he was considering a Camaro SS 1LE, Honda CTR, or a GR Corolla. Zygrene suggested picking the new Honda CTR/Si or GR Corolla. They were going to wait until the official specs were released. I don't understand why a turbo engine with more usable low-end torque would be bad for a daily driver, especially given the established reliability of the G16E-GTS.

@@cloudhidden1196 Matt seemed uncomfortable in the BRZ. I'm 6'1 with XXL shoulders and GR86 fits me perfectly. Also, shifting quality is intuitive and I was able to put in some lighten quick shifts and it felt very natural (In a short drive, did 1st to 2nd shift while going sideways and was able to shift and correct at same time with ease, while still on the power). Matt's having totally different experience, but I've been driving manuals since the 80s and also race my K20C2 Civic. Regarding Turbos, if you're a surgeon at carving through city traffic with your manual, you'll understand why linear power from NA engine is better vs Turbo in that situation.

Matt should definitely keep his AE86 - they'll never make a car like that ever again with modern emissions regulations and safety regulations. If he can afford it, it would be awesome if he could also get a blue GR86 to make it an 86-themed garage 👌

The Elantra N gets crazy good reviews for handling and steering feel. Edmunds recently pitted it against a WRX in their "U-drag" video series and the N was waaaay quicker, and won on handling/steering too. I think the styling is pretty polarizing as well as 2 door vs 4 doors that seems to elicit some strong feelings. I'd love to see some lap times of the Elantra N vs BRZ/86 vs GR Corolla!

As someone who drives his ae86 at least 3 days a week, I wonder why Matt would drive something like this but not drive his ae86. Frankly keep the ae86 and get one of these. Also I believe you can tune out the rev hang, which would be one of my first mods, I can not stand rev hang.

I personally still can't get over how it looks. It just looks like a bunch of modern sedan designs squished together and only the sides look like a real 86/BRZ. Performance wise it's a lot better in every way over 1st gen, superior even.

The Daily Practicality of the GR86 is hard to argue. The seats on 1/2 Gen 86 is just perfection imo. I feel you Matt on the rev hang especially if your a quick shifter 😁take some adjustment. Your on pt Fenton these cars you don’t even need to touch OEM, OEM+ is way to go on modding. Respecting the car capabilities regardless should always be exercised. Sell the AE86 Matt get that nice solid profit grab GR86 at below msrp if you can.

Matt should keep the AE86 and go buy a GR86. If I had an AE86 no way id sell it, just a beautiful heritage the GR86 has and legacy the AE86 has left us with.

Matt should keep his AE86 Corolla. I’m surprised the Nissan Z and Toyota Supra aren’t higher up on his shortlist compared to this Subaru BRZ. I think he is better off getting a Honda Civic Type R and Toyota Corolla GR4, than the Hyundai Elantra N or Subaru WRX, or Honda Civic Si.

It’s hard to agree with “it doesn’t need more power”... I like when a car scares me when I floor it.

Keep the AE86 for sure, look into storage options if need be. Also, I rly like and respect the Elantra N. For Matt, he may also want to consider upcoming redesign of Civic Type R.

I say no. It's pretty obvious Matt's ideal fun daily is not the same as Fenton's. For all intensive purposes, the 2022 BRZ is a 2 seater hatch. The only function of the rear seat is to divide the driving compartment from the trunk. Toyota went to great lengths to keep the BRZ light with it's center of gravity as low as possible. The function of low slung weight is improved handling, but comes as a sacrifice to Matt's desire for greater comfort and usability. FWD = happy Matt.

This is the first video of many that mentions rev hang. Is it pretty minor? Will you eventually seek out a tune that eliminates it?

I wish i lived in a country where these cars are fun. But here, politics are killing petrolhead fun so i m driving my last sportcars ever. I did try a brz and gt86 but it was too boring compared to my NA turbo miata. And it was consuming way to much fuel. Pity - sure he should keep, the ae86! Modern cars can t give you that joy.
