I'm reading Matthew Perry's memoir right now. He thinks this show, which I really liked and liked him in, flopped because it was an overly serious show about comedy. I personally think it was its' smug leftwing political POV that did it in. Matthew broke up with Harriet because of her Christian faith, which HE associated with intolerance?! Mocking and smearing 50% of the country is not the best way to attract a large audience. That said, I loved the writing and the characters on this show. I thought Perry, Bradley Whitford and especially Sarah Paulson were brilliant in it! I was sorry to see it get cancelled.
Well, if you are an adult and you are in a long term relationship you may want your partner to share your religious point of view, because raising your children is hardly a matter when you should compromise, so breaking up with her is not intolerance, it's just common sense. "Smug leftwing political pov" yeah... because people who disagree with you are by default smug, that's kinda smug ironically. Faith is willingly not knowing, which by definition is ignorance, you can feel smeared and mocked by that, but your indignation tells a lot about you, and don't get me wrong; I'm all for religion when it's a personal set of values that help people navigate the hardships of life, but that's hardly the case with the evangelical gang that try to push their faith, their self imposed, smug assumed higher moral ground into legislation and nowadays social issues.
@@riverebec1 Faith: Complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Unless you can prove God, you are voluntarily trusting something you don't know is there, that very lack of knowledge is, by definition, ignorance.
@@MalakianM2S Arrogance: an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions. That sounds more like "ignorance" to me. But atheists believe in a lot of things that just aren't true. Like great music came out of the air or beautiful flowers and plants are just part of the dirt. Inspiration and love are hardly man-made. Regardless, when it comes to faith versus ignorance, you're talking apples and oranges. Recovering addicts believe in a "higher power" that will help heal them. Would you go around calling them "ignorant" for having FAITH in something like that? You really should refrain from commenting on that which YOU have no actual knowledge of.
@@riverebec1 There is no presumption in definitions, I just pointed them out. In the other hand, and talking about christians... something... something... beam and eyes. You don't know what atheism is. Atheists don't believe anything, again by definition, is completely the opposite; the lack of belief in the existence of any god. Great music came from humans, as bananas (that's an apologetic reference), and basically any other non one hundred percent natural thing that there is in the surface of this planet. Some people simply acknowledge that we, as a race, we don't know most of what there is, and work through our ignorance, and other people like to fill the gaps and make up explanations for what they don't know. Atheists are ignorant also, no atheist can positively say that God doesn't exist, but complete certainty is something of a unicorn, and working with what we actually know has brought us modern medicine, airplanes, ophthalmology and so on. I'd call anyone that actually hold the existence of any supernatural being as a fact an ignorant person, yes. Because that's what it is, the lack of actual knowledge about those "things" being real is what make them so. Our brain is made to complete puzzles, to give answers, and we need those to function, is what kept us alive as a species. I'd repeat myself, my utmost respect for recovering alcoholics, newborn christians and any person that hold a system of beliefs as a personal moral compass, as long as they keep those moral precepts to themselves and don't try to force them into others, or reality for that matter.
