I remember listening to this live on the radio. I was working in media at the time and couldn’t believe what was transpiring and what would end up happening.
*Makes a big fuss about getting his Qualcomm pitch. *The much-hyped pitch sounds like a high school student giving a speech about a topic they don’t know much about, but are trying to wing it to get a C-
"Obviously..." I don't think that word means what Matt thinks it does. "Obviously we're here to honor and talk about Qualcomm.." Honor? You were there to honor Qualcomm? Well that's just stupid, isn't it.
The best part about this is that there is some kind of contest that DP mentions at the end but Harvey says nothing about. And i'm still not sure what exactly Harvey is selling.
It's part of his job to talk to the media. If he didn't want to do that then he shouldn't have agreed to do the interview. But this was a big story that he choose to decline Tommy John Surgery.
Harvey's...SELF-INFLATED EGO...was his own worst enemy and played a major, contributing factor in his undoing! That said, IMO, this whole Qualcomm debacle (which, btw...I watched/saw live, as it unfolded) was basically the "stepping stone" to his ultimate/eventual downfall! Meaning,...the [justified & deserved] BLOWUP & BACKLASH that Harvs received from the general media, the sports media, and most of all,...the FANS, was too much for this CLOWN to handle, mentally/psychologically/emotionally/etc.! And I appropriately refer to him as a clown because,...from a practical standpoint, the clown,...barely had much more than a small cup o' coffee (big league wise) before he went ahead and got himself TOO BIG for his own damn britches! Additionally, just about EVERY interview that I saw of this CLOWN,...from the period where he (admittedly) showed glimpses of potential stardom,...he came off as an ARROGANT, SELF-ABSORBED, POMPOUS JAG-OFF!! In short, his BLOWUP and his subsequent CRAPPY NUMBERS/STATS couldn't have happened to a more DESERVING fella'! Harvey's a TURD!!
Matt, I know you will see this - Some of us of us not near NYC (quite frankly) don't know much about your injury status. A Royals or Diamondbacks or Mariners fan listening in their home city did not hear your interview with NYC media the day prior. Chalk it up as a learning experience. Commercials (product pitches) are allowed, but only after you complete a 5-7 minute interview. Take care and hope to see you succeed (on the mound) next season.
Alonzo Mourning did something simular to Jim Rome once. I believe he came on his show and told him he was only going to talk about kidney disease and nothing else. at least in that case it was talking about a non-profit and not just shilling some stupid phone product. It's very rude to come on someone's show and do this
for all Dan knew, he might of not of been told that certain questions were off limits. He isn't gonna be rude to a guest without knowing what was going
You miss the point too. Not everyone listening to the show follows everything about the Mets. Why would I read about him before clicking on a video? Whatever, there is a reason I don't usually comment on RU-vid and it is because everyone wants to put others down. Out.
That other poster seemed more educated in today's wired world than you. Harvey's news on his injury is on every major sports site - espn, bleacher report, yahoo sports, etc. You can browse to youtube and make a comment but yet can't go to a major sports site?
Arrogance? How about not wanting to miss a season and play for his team so he can win? I respect that you were more mature than most 24 year old's, but being in the New York media is another dimension of stress (not saying one is more difficult than the other, but they are so different)
He's usually good at interviews. But people need to understand that he is 24: when you were 24, you would never want to answer the same question a thousand times while you were stressed and lacking sleep. Give the guy a break.

First of all, Harvey has talked enough about his injury already. Secondly Patrick cut him off after the plug was in. He should be asking about his rehab and performance rather than how "scary" the surgery might be. Patrick couldn't hold francesas Jock strap
I know this is 4 years ago, but here is something you don't understand just like Matt Harvey did not understand at first. To address one point you made, Matt said he was NOT going to talk about his arm/deciding not to do Tommy John. Go back and listen. Matt Harvety said himself he was NOT going to talk about it during this interview, they would need a new interview to do that, this interview was ONLY about his Qualcom pitch. But back to the original point, sports fans don't watch sports shows just for the pitches the athletes are going to make. Maybe you do, maybe you do just for the commercials and if so, that;s your prerogative. But even Matt Harvey called in the next day to apologize, even Matt Harvey realized he made a mistake and blew it. To be fair to Matt, it was probably his first pitch and he, although he should have, maybe he didn't know better. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. But don't sit there and act like Dan Patrick should have been thrilled about Qualcom. Dan doesn't get a penny for the pitches the athletes make, he does that as a favor to them for having them come on the show to do an INTERVIEW NOT AN INFOMERCIAL. Common sense man.
