I love the calmness with this horse. At first I thought he was pulling forward on the bridle, but once you took the bridle off I could see that he naturally holds his head that way.

Its an American Quarter Horse and they hold their heads in this way, so fricking cuteee!

Perfect video! I am always giving my horse the wrong cue, he is so push button, and listening to me. Always rider error with my horse. Bless his heart, he tries even when I get it wrong. Thanks, Matt for this video :-)

I like how you wait for the horse to be calm and relaxed and confident, I was looking for something like this that wasn’t just “push push push” on the horse, y’know? That would overwhelm my boy.

Just like to say thank you for this video. I have a young reiner and she could spin when i got her at 2 and a half years old. i gave her 6 months off and started working her again. But I couldn't get her spinning again until i watched this clip. So I cant thank you enough for posting it!

nice quiet werk, and good to see tha head not behind tha vertical.. i started out in Cutting, so tha spin is a bit of a mystery to train fer me, becuz i learned tha rollback, and instead of experimenting, i'm staying on tha humble side and looking fer good instruction.. c):~)

My teacher told me at a trot and then form the spin in a circle before walking but I will try that step. Because I have always wanted to do reining I’m about at a 5,100$ horse. But good luck on the next steps mat that for the info!

When i try to use neck rein my mare curls up and hiper flexes but doesn't move her shoulder, how can i make her move her shoulder? Removing inside leg and putting out leg doesn't seem to work, just makes her walk faster.

I have a thoroughbred I hope to do barrels on soon. And I like to teach them how to spin but he likes to pivot on his front legs. I’ve never had this problem with my quarter horses.

Much easier on a quarter But not impossible on yours. Sounds like you to start with trotting tight circles and working on shoulder movement 1st! Check out my Training Videos at Mattmillsreining.com. I get into some details there! Free 7 Day Trial!!

Awesome video! Do you have any advice if you have a horse that is pretty lazy in moving his shoulders? My horse has some problems by crossing his front legs over and moving away with the shoulder. He doesn't move more when you do more with your legs or reins. Maybe you have an exercise to help him to understand how to move his shoulders faster and more properly?

Cheers for this, I have been researching "horse trained" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Menailey Vonaliyah Formula - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my colleague got excellent success with it.

Starting a horses spin from scratch is just trying to get one step until they can build up enough confidence to take more and more each time. If you’re trying to train the spin and you can’t get it, I recommend going to a trainer and taking a lesson on of their finished horses to feel how the horse should be moving. I know, from experience, that this would help a lot. At first it’s just keeping it simple and letting them build their confidence with that one step. Collection also helps, but if you only have the face, all you’re doing is holding up his face. You want their back rounded so you can spin easier and faster. ***this is how we train COW HORSRS not reiners- there’s a difference***
